Will these work on a completely stock 402 shortblock. I know the gasket issue, but I'm worried about the "vane" in the combustion chamber hitting the stock dome. I'm helping a friend with this for a 68 Impala so the low speed power these make seems like the ticket.

If they fit and I think they will, but need to check, imho, they will be dandy heads on a 402.

We're deployed right now and the shortblock is sitting in my garage so we can't do a mock up before we buy the heads. I really don't want to buy something we can't use.

They'll bolt on and work just fine--although you may need to trim the vane in the combustion chamber to clear the dome.

The procedure was detailed in the Chevy Thunder advertising section of Chevy High Performance many years ago.

Do keep in mind that you'll most likely want to garbage-can the valve springs, valve rotators, and non-adjustable rocker arms.

After it's all said and done it would be eaiser to get some early closed chamber heads.

Right, I figure too!

I have a pair of early 96.7 to 98 chamber cc large oval -206's out in my garage for later just to play with.
