A buddy was running low 10's with one in a Nova. Excellent high rpm engine (he shifted around 8200) in a light car. Sold the car to a guy in Hawaii. He got it into the 9's. Because of the short stroke, it tends to be weak at lower rpm. Put it in a light car with some 5.xx gears and haul a**.

Friend of mine runs one in a stock bodied '70 Vette, 3400 lbs +, single carb, N/A runs 10.30's @ 130 +, 4.56 Gears.

Or the 377's two little brother's!!

The 3.25" stroked, .030" overbore version at 352.5"..

AND the 3.00" stroked version at 325.4"...

ALL three run good, imho, but I like the little one best b/c it reminds me of my junk 301..

Of course, you won't have the torque of the longer stroked motor's but what the hey, they are made to RPM right up there with the best of them!!!!

Trade high rpm Hp, gears and tires for stroked grunt.... And go have fun anyway..

Blumont, How heavy is your 65, i assume its being planned for that? I have a 377 in My 70 Nova, 400 .060 over, actually 383 cubes with the .060 over.
I have to say since my new cam, the car runs very well. Very quick rev/high rev. I have 4.56s so it makes it even better. But the low end was hurt with this cam. I use to be able to be driving in 3rd gear about 35 mph, and mash it and spin....not anymore, But i have to say, once i get to about 4000rpms, WOW the car is at 7500 before you know it. My car weighs 3050 w/o me and 1/4 tank of gas. I love this motor, but i wouldnt put it in a heavy car because of the non exisitant low end tq. Any questions and you can e-mail me.

I built one once for somebody. He wouldn't listen, so I did it anyway against my better judgement. Sure enough, he wasn't happy. He came back complaining that the 400s were beating him off every corner, and he wanted more cam to pick up some straightaway speed. We picked a bigger cam and slid it in. Somehow I don't think it helped.

I was curious, I think I am going with a 383 but being inexperienced I just had to ask.
Ed, I appreciate the offer to help but after reading about this combo I don't think 7500 rpm is in my future ;) I am just researching a bit before I buy parts. Still looking for that perfect street combo for my ole Beau

How a 377 will do depends on your set-up (weight, gear, etc..). I say if you're dealing with the typical weight chevelle (~3500lbs) I'd be looking at going the other direction with the stroke.

I think I am going the 377 route, with or without turbo's.

Should be nice in my little 280z though. Even with the 12 point cage being added, it still will only weigh 2800 without me.
