I went in to my local Napa Auto Parts and told them I needed Big Block w/ AC springs.

They handed me a pair of springs. Didn't get the part number, but they WERE Moog.

Didn't seem to be any confusion...

i have a 70SS and just bought springs through summit. do you want handling, ride or a drag spring? what options do you have a/c,p/s,auto or manual? all this matters and do you want to cut them down to get your ride height?

the 5374 spring is a 317.0 lbs/inch rating but its tall at 17.17 inches and lists for the bb convertable 71 chevelle, i went with the 5536 which is 487.0 at 15.06 which lists for the 71 bb hardtop heavy duty and the el caminos. my 70SS has only p/s and power disc with a richmond 5sp, shattershield and battery in the trunk and it sets perfect for me and its ride is good. i don't like that nose high look so i have 275/60r15 in the rear with 255/60r15s in the front and moog cargo springs in the rear. the cargos don't lift the back really, they just keep it from sagging with the battery in the back and passengers.

I heard somewhere when switching to a BB with small block springs, the front will drop around 1.5" is this about right?
I'm wondering because I'm likely going to leave my SB springs in there for a while.

Just remember, when putting in a Big Block with Small Block springs, the front end alignment will be way off. And yes, it will drop at least 1.5 inches, depending on the conditions of your springs.

Should raise your car an 1.5" to 2.0",this is what it did to my El Camino.

That's about right, but I found the ride and handling to be sloppy with the small block springs. I went to Moog's website, found the part number for stock springs on a 69 with 396, and ordered them from Summit. Ride height is perfect and ride & handling are MUCH improved.

I put what is supposed to be a SB w/AC spring on the front of my car and am very happy with ride and stance (although it could probably be about 1/2" lower.) Can't really compare to the old springs and small block as examination upon removal revealed one spring was actually longer than the other and there were rubbers in the coils, etc.

The new springs are MOOG 5390 which have a 336 spring rate and an advertised free height of 16.63" EDIT: This should be the same spring Mike mentioned in above post ^^^^^^

Car has aluminum radiator, water pump, intake & heads along with headers but does have full functioning factory A/C.
So some weight has been taken out of the front for sure.
