: Are there short spark plugs?

I've got a 350 with Sanderson block hugger type headers in a 70 Chevelle. The #5 plug leaves about 1/4" from the tip of the plug to the header pipe. As suspected it torched my new MSD wire in very little running time. The shop that built my heads sold me Autolite plugs. Do different brands of plugs have different lengths? The length I'm concerned with is how far they extend from the head.

you can buy accel header plugs but i would not use them for a serious performance application
I use autolite racing plugs and they are just as short as the header plugs! check into champion and autolite RACING plugs as these are generally shorter

This is the first I've heard about the accels not being any good. I just got a set but only run one in number 6. Whats the problem with them?

Regarding the Autolite racing plugs...
When I went back to the shop that did my heads and told them about my problem they sold me a set of Autolite plugs (part # 255 I think) that look like they were meant for a lawnmower. These things are less than 2 inches long from tip to tip. Any chance these are the racing plugs we're talking about?

hear you go and write it down so you dont lose it
the chevy taper seat- racing plug part number is
AR-131 this is for sbc with the heads requiring a taper seat not gasket seat found on double humps!
I buy mine from Advance Auto Parts for $1.56 a piece !! ( i have a buddy who gets me his discount :D ) These plugs are great and i have used the same set ( cleaned after every 3races) all year i have about 75-100 passes this year and 200 street miles on them and they still fire great !!
The champion part number is v-59c and they are pricey at about 4.00 a pop from jegs
hope this helps
