: Friday night at the track with 2+ Tons of fun
ImpBiscuit Mar 12th, 05, 2:07 AM I took my Biscayne to the track tonight. I got in some good runs. 1st 11.553@ 120.35 2nd 11.571@ 119.67, 3rd 11.48@ 120.08. My best 60' time was 1.722. The car seemed to pick up leaving at higher rpm's. My first 3 runs I had been leaving at 3600rpm. My last run I tried 4000rpm.
Now for my 2nd question. What are some of the cluches y'all are running. I need a new one. The 4000rpm launch killed mine dead. It went up in a cloud of black stinky smoke. The one I had was just a Hays street strip. I have heard some bad about Centerforce. I know there are a lot of choices out there.
John
I run the 11" Hays Street/Strip 3-finger Borg-Beck design. Seems to hold well, I do 3600 - 4000 dumps with slicks and have pulled of 1.72 short times.
What does a Biscayne weigh?
ImpBiscuit Mar 12th, 05, 8:53 AM The weight is 4240lbs with me.

macdon Mar 12th, 05, 9:28 AM On my vert (3500+ lbs) I have 11 inch Ram 980 with a Ram 402 pressure plate. A little bit of chatter from all that metal on the street, lots of hold !!

-SS454- Mar 12th, 05, 12:05 PM I've heard good things about the Mcleods clutches. But no experience with them.

John Yikes!,...and it runs mid 11's with a stick.
Impressive.
SS454JC Mar 12th, 05, 2:29 PM Hi John,
Very impressive and cool ride. Would love to see pictures.
Running a RAM 402 Diaphram, RAM 900 series disc and stock nodular iron 25 lb flywheel in 1970 Chevelle convertible. Car weighs 3990 with me in it.
This clutch has held up well for 10+ years. Used to race the car with a 4:56 rear and 2:20 first gear Muncie. Car was a dog out of the hole (2.0+ 60 foot times) below 4000RPM launch. But....the clutch never slipped even with heavy car and low RPM launch. Above 4000RPM I was able to get 1.8 60 foot. M&H street slick 28x10.
I have enjoyed this clutch on the street as pressure is easy and disc has an 8 spring hub and marcel. Occasional chatter when hot, but not windshield / teeth rattling chatter at all. Just a bit sometimes.
Stock flywheel has held up.
540hotrod has a Vette that goes 10.00, maybe 9's now. He was running a McLeod dual disc.
Let us know your choice. Good luck, Joe
ImpBiscuit Mar 12th, 05, 5:59 PM Thanks guys. keep the advise coming. I will be making calls on monday and see what clutch MFG's recommend.I have Pictures at http://community.webshots.com/user/bisqwik
SS454JC Mar 13th, 05, 6:50 PM Hello John,
Wow. Your Impala is something else. Very mean machine. Stick with AC is not something you see everyday. Love it. The stock appearance is awesome. Nice work.
Richmond 6 speed? Any modifications to it? How long have you been beating on it in 4000+lb car?
Very cool.
....Joe.
ImpBiscuit Mar 14th, 05, 12:29 PM I called Ram this is what they recommend.
Pressure plate Long #437
Disk #310m
and also a new steel flywheel since mine is cast.
After he ask the weight he guessed my car was a freaken Mopar!
I also took my 78 Malibu to the track to try to sell. The dang stator went and put a but load of stuff in the glide. So I have it out and in pieces to rebuild. I has been built a long time so it is not that big of deal. $50.00 for a clutch and seal kit. I have another converter. One of these days I will buy a transmissions jack.
My wife thinks if I quit going to the track I could spend more time with the family and quit working on cars.
John
427L88 Mar 14th, 05, 2:00 PM I think I broke a crank launching at 5000 rpm with big BFG slicks and a lader bar setup ( would stall the motor at less than 5G and "unload" the front suspension at 5000+ :D), in other words I beat the snot of it, 15K miles adn then I swapped the tranny adn nneded a 26 spline.
That old CF dual friction clutch is good to run again. I don;t know, other than a bit of chatter and having to lengthen the clutch adjusting rod, I'll have to swear by CenterForce.
