I'm looking for the best deal on an aluminzed, dual exhaust system for my 65 SS conv. I want a good quality system for a reasonable price. I also want a throaty sound without being too loud. I plan to run them from the manifold back to the rear bumper. Does anyone have any suggestions ? Who to buy from ? Who NOT to buy from ? Any good or bad experience with the aftermarket suppliers out there ?

I'd call Pypes and see what they have. I have their X Pipe system on the Charger with the Race Flo mufflers. They idle kinda quiet but have a throaty sound when you get on the throttle with next to no interior resonance.

I'm looking at Pypes myself, very reasonable cost. There are also a couple of ebay sellers who offer aluminized exhaust made to factory specs for the mid - $200 range, Can't vouch for the quality though.

The Pypes stuff is very well made. Magnaflow mufflers have a nice soft rumble but get loud when you get in the throttle. Pypes also makes additional pipes which will connect their exhaust system (which is designed for headers) to stock manifolds. Get their great stainless band clamps which work well and allow for a great deal of adjustability until you get it to fit just right and allow you to disassemble the pipes later if the need arrises such as in the event you decide to switch to headers.

I just ordered one of these -

... without mufflers 'cause I've already got some. $150 + shipping. I'll post on my install experience when I'm done.

The Jeg's systems are ok at best. I put one of their kits with mufflers on a '94 LT1 Caprice. The tailpipes didn't fit all that great and themufflers they sent are complete junk. The inlets and outlets broke loose from the body of the muffler

I figured I'd take a chance, since I'm cheap and poor. I'm afraid it'll be one of those "You get what you pay for" deals, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I've already got Magnaflow mufflers, so I know they're ok.

To add to what Rich said, Pypes makes the downpipes that you will need to connect pretty much any system out there, including those made by Pypes, to your stock manifolds. Here is a link:

Our sponsor Ground Up also makes a reasonably priced system that will connect to stock manifolds.

If you had headers, it would be much easier... but IMO the easiest way is to simply choose the manufacturer/system, then purchase the Pypes downpipes to complete it...

Good luck. Let us know what you go with, and how the fit and finish was...
