I have a new 383 stroker motor with 2500 miles on it as of today.I noticed that i have a small trace of oil comming out from the three bolts on the passengers side near the fire wall. The heads are edelbrock aluminum part number 60899 performer rpm.In what order do these heads get torqued i do not know where to start.Should these heads get torqued when cold.? What or how much torque do i set the torque wrench at.?
I am very new to all of this and sure could use any help or ideas, my machine shop that is was very good has gone out of buissness so its just me and the great people here.
Alann..........Many thanks for any reply and or help:bow::bow::bow:

I used a similar chart as in the link (scroll down a little ways to find it).
http://boxwrench.net/specs/chevy_sb.htm
I think I did it in 3 runs, first at 45, then at 55, then 65. What did the manufacturer suggest for a torque setting?
If you are installing heads, I don't know how you'd do it warm, so you've got to do it while they are cold. They will need retorqued.
Did you use thread sealer? Also, not sure how oil would come out of these bolt heads? Are you sure you don't have a leaky valve cover gasket? Fresh oil on an aluminum head would be hard to see.

Thank you for the link it will be printed for reference, i will look again at the valve covers it is possible this could be the leak. The heads have never been re torqued since run in and as said the new 383 stroker now has 2500 miles on it.The bolts on the heads are wet with oil i just thought if they are loose they could leak oil .Cant say if thread sealer was used on the head bolts this motor was built for me by a great friend at a machine shop here that has gone under. Thanks for your help i will check the valve covers more close you could be on to something here.

I would check the valve cover gaskets first. But a good idea is to go to your local Border's books or Barnes and nobles and look for a "How to rebuild a Small Block Chevy" or "Small Block Chevy Perfomance", these books are a big help in having info like that. I've done many engines and still refer to them for torque specs, patterns etc. I have one for both the big and small block chevy. Good Luck

Ditto on the valve cover gaskets. Get some talcum powder in the palm of your hand and blow a cloud of it towards the area of the leak. It will stick to the oil and you can see where it is coming from. Flour will work too.
There is no oil anywhere near the head bolts for them to be leaking.
