What is the latest requirements (Snell Rating) for helmets? I know they periodically change the requirements (Snell Rating) but how often do they do that? If I buy a new helmet, how long will it be good for?
Thanks in advance.

My NHRA rulebood is from 2003. The helmet rule last year was the helmet had to be a Snell SA90 or newer. I believe they update the helmet rule every 5 years as that is what the Snell's are dated, ever 5 years (SA90, SA95, SA2000). Professional classes must use a helmet of SA95 or newer.
From what I can tell, a helmet is good for approx. 10 years (maybe 15), unless I'm reading how NHRA updates the rules and how often. When a new SFI date comes out, they bump the last accepted older date off...my Snell SA85 went out of date when the SA2000 came out.
Not to highjack this old post, but I have a related question. On the NHRA website, under their FAQ Here (http://www.nhra.com/contacts/tech_faq.html) it states that you need a SNELL M85, M90, M95, SA85, SA90, SA95 or K98. With Pro class needing a SA rated helmet. Is this FAQ old?
Basically, what I'm trying to find out is what's needed for Test-N-Tune nights? Can I get through tech with say a M85 helmet? I'm hitting a TNT night soon and need some helmet guidance. Thanks!
