IF you cant seem to satisfy both requirements, which is more important?

Quench for sure! You could have an 8:1 DCR motor ping like crazy if the quench was messed up, but you could have a similar 8.25:1 DCR motor not ping at all with proper quench. Shoot for .039" to .045".

.051 isn't too bad. I'd use it if that was the best I could get.

Quench is more important IMO - I'd shop around a little more for head gaskets before you settle for .051".

I know Cometic makes a .030 compressed thickness gasket. I think Fel Pro makes one with .028.

These are for small block applications. I haven't looked at the BBC offerings.

Yeah I think .051" will fly. All that is extra is like two human hairs lol.

.026 is the best available for a 400 right now. And there are only a few reamaining of those according to Chevy High Performance.

How does a solid cam affect DCR?
Right now the figures I get using the XS282S are as follows:

Dynamic Stroke 2.88229
Quench .051
DCR 7.8526

Is this Daily driver streetable?

Thanx

If it were mine I would want to be towards the low end of the scale. I had the deck hieght of my 400 sb block milled down to achieve an .035 quench with a compostion gasket. Steel shim gaskets are not available for the sb 400. With a compostion gasket the quench would have been .065. The initial cost was worth every penny, I can now use an off the shelf Fel Pro gasket if I ever have to pull the heads.
