: how to route parking brake lines
dauber65 Aug 10th, 08, 1:14 PM Team,
I have a 71 chevelle I have been working on. I am replacing the TH350 with a 700R4 and a 10 bolt with a 12 bolt. I finally got the 12 bolt bolted up and the parking brake lines clipped into the frame. I then realized I don't remember how to run the lines from the front of the car. I have headers with true dual exhause with glasspacks right before the rear end. Would these lines run overtop of the exhaust. Anyone have a picture of this set up?
davis95 Aug 10th, 08, 1:41 PM The lines run up against the floorboard.
Each side will have a small hook to run the cable through to keep them tight. Everything under the car runs below these cables (exhaust, trans crossmember, etc.).
Dean Aug 10th, 08, 1:47 PM If the cross member has been moved, you'll probably have to make a different length hook there.
dauber65 Aug 10th, 08, 9:00 PM I've changed to a 700R4 from a TH350. It things don't match up right. I might just remove everything because my pedal is froze right now and one drum is also froze. Its an automatic, so I can't think of too many situations where I will need a parking brake unless something breaks in the driveline. I live in Illinois. There are no grades above 2 percent around here to worry about parking on.
TronDD Aug 10th, 08, 10:40 PM It's not a parking brake, it's an emergency brake. It's a backup mechanical brake to use in the event of the hydrolic system failing and, at least in my state, it is required.

dauber65 Aug 10th, 08, 10:43 PM That is an excellent point. My plan for if the regular braking system failed......... downshifting!!! I know I should get it fixed. So if the cables go above everything, why is there a hanger on the cross member? Wouldn't that almost have to go below the cross member?
TronDD Aug 12th, 08, 10:02 PM I have the front cable below the cross member and above the exhaust. The rear cable is above the exhaust and doesn't reach the cross member.

Chicken Coupe Aug 13th, 08, 10:07 AM Although it is not the exact year, this is off a 66 that I grabbed from another post. It shows you the clips and cable routing described by others and should be a pretty good guide.

dauber65 Aug 13th, 08, 10:29 AM That is interesting. I could have sworn the hook that went in my trans cross member was on the passenger side. Am I crazy? Is the picture above the proper way these are routed?
Chicken Coupe Aug 13th, 08, 11:00 AM On my '70, the long hook that has no adjustment was on the rt. side, and the one with the adjustment guide and screw was on the lft. side, as pictured when I disassembled.
Smittie Aug 13th, 08, 11:07 PM On the 69 the hook should be on the passenger side of the crossmember, e-brake cable on driver's side goes under the crossmember not between the crossmember and floorboard. The Assembly Manual illustrates the routing.
