I am looking at adding a carb spacer. Is it worth the money. I have heard Ken Jett talk about the Wilson spacer and others talk about other spacers.I am looking at the 1" aluminum 4 hole supper sucker or the 1" 4 hole wilson spacers. Not sure if I will get any improvement for mony spent. Motor is a 468" b.b., ported oval closed chamber heads, solid Ultradyne cam, pro-systems preped holley h.p. on a single plane holley strip dominator. Has anyone had any experience with spacers, that might help me. smile.gif

Thanks

The way I see it, spacers are a way to tune your induction system. It's similar to jetting and timing in that you experiemnt with different settings to get the best E.T. at the track or horsepower/torque on the dyno. There can be a nice benefit from one but you won't know if your combo will benefit from one until you try it. There are also variations of spacers. 1", 2", angled, spiraled, etc., etc.. The best bet is to grab some different ones at the next swap meet for cheap. When you've found the one your combo likes you can sell the ones you don't use at the next swap meet.

i have used the 4 hole type on big block engines before. i am in favor of them. i use the 4 hole type with the tapered underside, this mix's the air, fuel better. You should notice more HP and torque. I did at least. In fact i have a brand new one from JEGs i cant use it do to hood clearance issues, im bummed too i think it would be a great bolt on if it would work on my velle. I will sell it if you want it. JEGS part number... 555-15420 1" edge spacer tappered stlyle. I paid $85 bucks for it. Make a reasonable offer.

Thanks for the info guys. What I am really looking for is someone who has had experience with the super sucker and/or Wilson spacers. I have been looking into these to spacer and others.I have narrowed it down to these two. Anyone who is using one of these spacers and can give me some real world experience withe them would be greatly apreciated. smile.gif

thanks

I'm using the HVH 2" super sucker 4 hole tapered into open. Works good as far as I can tell, no comparasons to go off though. Never ran this engine w/o it or any other.

I used a 2in 4 hole with the bottom one inch opened up on a single plane BB. It really picked up the torque and throttle response over nothing.

When I dynoed my 540 back in Nov., I tried various combos of spacers... 1" open, 1" 4-hole, 1/2" open, 1/2" 4-hole and the 1" HVH 4-hole tapered to open on the Super Victor intake.
Found, at least on my setup, the 1" HVH super sucker worked the best...which is what I use.
Plus, this spacer serves two purposes...I've drilled and tapped it for a vacuum port for the tranny modulator and as a trash plate for the Dominator.
BUT, there's not a great, remarkable difference between any of them, as was shown during the dyno runs. A couple of HP and a couple of ft/lbs is all that seperates the best from the worst.

I have been out all day just got a chance to get on line. Thanks for your replys. I had a talked with the guys at my local speed shop and they told me I can use some spacers when I have my car redynoed for no charge. If one works for me, then I will buy it. If I don't see a good change,he said bring then back for no charge. I can't beat that deal. He has super suckers, open spacers, and a lot more to choose from. I guess I will know what works in just a couple of weeks. Thanks again guy for all your help and good info.
