I have a 355 chevy that has a broken pushrod. I am going to be pulling the motor this winter forsure for a rebuild. I have a couple of local carshows I would like to drive it to. The car does run and drive fine. (I had to drive it home being the rod busted about 10 minutes from my shop.) however when I drove it home, I was very gentle with it. How much damage will I be causing it by driving it a little bit? And is this damage somthing that would be corrected during my rebuild, or am I risking major/catastrofic failure? I really hope to be able to drive it gently this fall before I full the motor. Oh ya one more thing, during the rebuild, I will be replacing the cam/lifter/rods/heads etc. posibbly even the rotating assembily. (more than likely) 383 here I come finnally!! I know you all are very knowladgable when it comes to this sort of thing, and any help/info/advice would be very appreciated. Thanks for your time, and keep up the great website!

P.S. it sucks to live in minnesota where we only can drive for part of the year. Warm weather residents can have fun all year round.

Why not just pull the valve covers and replace the bent or broken one. Very simple job...

I did just pull the intake off to fish out the broken rod. Upon start up, the same rod busted again! So I am assuming there is somthing wrong with the lifter or cam??? any thoughts?

maybe the pushrod's bottomed out int the lifter ( collapsed lifter)
