Are there any performance and/or reliability gains from using the Comp Cams Pro Magnum Rockers vs. say a set of Harland Sharp rocker arms?

The Pro Magnum rockers are SS and are more dependable then the aluminum rocker.

You will NOT find any performance/ET gains between the 2

everybody I talk to locally is telling me to get the Crane Race Gold rockers or to get a set of shaft mounted rockers.

I need to reduce weight in the valvetrain because of the factory hydraulic lifters in the big block. I just need the engine to rev up to about 5800-6000.

Are the other rockers worth the extra money over a set of Harland Sharpes???

I would say that for a hydraulic lifter motor the harland sharps will do the job with no problem. I personally do not think you need to spend the extra dollars.

From what I understand, rocker weight has an extremely marginal effect on valvetrain weight. The farther you get from the fulcrum point the more weight matters. Valve weight is the most critical followed by lifter weight. Keepers and retainers have a pretty good effect. If weight is a major concern, I suggest going with titanium retainers and Harland Sharp (or other good rocker). The Comp Pro Mags are excellent and will last a longer time than aluminum. Shaft rockers will only save weight if you drive with your wallet in your pocket.

I just switched to Crane Golds, after 5 years of using Crane Energizers, after removal and inspection, some of the roller tips were flat spotting, seems like there was excessive side to side play on some rockers and on one valve the rocker itself was actually hitting the valve stem. I figured I was already on borrowed time, but no performance increase in switching rocker arms.

Bob, any idea how many miles on those Energizers?

Often thought I should have gone more $$( into a more durable set of steel rollers) or less ( long slot stamped), rather than aluminum rockers. But the Energizers seem plenty strong.

Maybe 5000 miles Gene,,,but its almost seen more miles at the track in the last two years(only 900 miles on the odometer last year),,,150-200 passes per year at least. They've been treated pretty rough.
