I'm restoring a 1968 Chevelle convertible and its time for some front end work. I can get by with ball joints and bushings but I would like the car to sit a couple of inches lower. It will mainly be a weekend cruiser and perhaps enter a car show once in a while.

My neighbor invested big $$ for a "total" handling kit from a big name (B-body spindles, control arms, springs, all that, you know the product). His ride height is perfect but he got a very minor improvement in ride and handling quality.

I have read about Savitske (SCandC.com) products for these cars and I spoke to someone at their shop who talked a darn good game. The question ... for those of you running the SCandC kits (adjustable control arms and tall ball joints) ... does the car handle that much better?

Yes.

To really handle well, the entire package needs to be set up properly... Good rubber, correcting the front geometry, a spring/shock/swaybar setup that works together, etc.

Yes: Mark is a good guy and wont oversell you with product you may not need. I got a Stage 11 kit from Mark with tall ball joints and his line of big block springs. He did warn me that I may not be happy with the new ride height and sold me spacers for the springs, which he would take back if I did not use them. The car was too low for me on the front so I did install them, but Mark would taken them back. I also changed bushings, idler arms, center link, etc and it is a whole new car. Derek SS was a wealth of knowlege about bushings, control arms and suspension components etc. I followed both Mark and Dereks's advice and got exactly what I needed and wanted. This is why the forum is such a great place to get info.

If its just going to car shows and cruising why worry about the high dollar parts, rebuilding the front end with some polyurethane bushings new ball joints, tie rods springs, shocks and a sway bar you'll notice a big differance use lowering springs to get the stance and your set and you still have $$ in your pocket
