What modern style bucket seats (w/power and comfort;) would replace my original SS strato-bucket seats. It's a 70 convertible (not sure if that matters). Looking for something much more modern and comfortable; doesn't have to be power but that's niiiiiiiiice!!!

Has anyone accomplished this kind of conversion?

Thanks - Duff

im in the precess of putting in some monte carlo seats right now. There far from bolt in tho being about 4-5 inches wider. Im still welding up some bracets. I hear people have alot better luck with F- body seats, there skinnier.

I've googled and it seems that Camaro/Firebird seats might be a good fit as it was said, they are narrower. I also saw some Procar seats on SummitRacing that looked interesting. When I make my decision/purchase/install, I'll repost again. Thanks for the input.... Duff

I know that some are putting in '04-'06 GTO buckets. I'm thinking of going that route when I replace my Recaros.

If you have a convertible, how can you get 3 point belts? Or can you? I've seen where the Chysler Sebring buckets have builit-in 3pt seat belts....

Not that it is the same, but I'm putting blue '04 power GTO seats in my 1970 ElCamino. Replacing the whole interior with new pieces from Year One. The blue GTO seats match the color of the dash exactly - and, they are super suportive and comfy!
The seat sliders do need a lot of modification to work, and I had to remove the rear window shelf to allow them to recline all the way...

Do the GTO seats have the belts built-in, or does the shoulder strap mount overhead? I'm trying to figure out how to get 3pt system on convertible....

How much modification did it take for the sliders? Did you use the El Camino sliders or the ones from the Goat?

Built-in female for the seatbelts, and no sholder mount. I've got some 3pt. belts in my car but the ElCamino has provisions for them in the back pillar.

Fireman, my car was a benchseat variety, so, I'm building/welding adapters so the GTO sliders will bolt in. I like to remove my seats once in awhile to do a good cleaning on the interior.

Rick what yr are the monte seats? I am in the process now of fabbing 01 monte seats in my 71 , the seats seem the same as far as the width but the tracks are mounted wider then the chevelle seats which limits how close to the door the tracks can be mounted, only problem i see is i cannot use the center console because the seats are to close to it

Mine are from a 2000, same seats tho. I had raise the seat up a but to get the tracks out of the "dip" in the floor pan so i could center it on the steering wheel. Ill Take some pictures today, I hope to be close to finished by tomorrow. It looks like ill have enough room for a console too.

Thanks Bill, Yeap thats all me. Learnin as i go. A year ago today i never even touched a welder.

Anyways I finished up with them brackets this morning, pulled an all nighter. I think they turned out good and there nice and sturdy. As far as height, They are a little taller but you dont notice the extra inch or two, But its a little tight between my thighs and steering wheel- Might be better with a tilt column. Im 6'3" and my head has about the same amount of clearence as it does in my 06 Monte. Im happy with it, and would rather lose an inch above my head than be off-centered on the wheel and no console. Ill go ahead and post some of the pics here so I can possibly help someone in the future. I got a few more on my photobucket as well

I installed the Procar Ralley seats in my 70. I love them.

A lot of people said that if you're a big guy you won't like them but they were the same size as my 06 Vette seat and a lot more comfortable. Plus they are almost an exact match with the rear seat.

They came with brackets that really do bolt in and fit the first time. Here are some pix.

I installed a set of buckets from a 2000-2002 Chrysler Concorde with all the electronics in the seat.
They're very comfortable and they even match the upholstery of the back seat pretty close but they don't have the shoulder strap built in.
I also drive a Chrysler Sebring convertable that does have the shoulder strap but I can't imagine that type of seat in a Chevelle. It would really be pretty ugly in my opinion.
The headrest would look really bad since the movable part is only the inside 2/3 of the headrest.

I used the tracks from the Chrysler and only had to heat the front 3 inches and remove a 90* bend from them to run studs through the floor. They work perfect!

I plan to get an upholsterer fab me a set of headrests that more closely resemble the originals from the late 60's.

You can sort of see the headrests...

I have the same seats, re-covered in '69 parchment using a rear-seat kit, and 3.5yds of extra vinyl from Legendary Interiors. :)

After some interest I wanted to post some measurements of the brackets location. On the top right its 3 7/8" from the lip of the outer rocker to the center of the stud.

Its the same on the back right. once you have those in the right place put the seat in and put the L. brackets wherever they line up. The driver side its the same. Hope this helps.

Just converted my 70 Chevelle from stock bench seats to 98 Camaro seats. Driver side is power.
You have to shim the inboard forward mount up and drill new holes in the floor with large washers backing the floor up from the bottom. They work great and add a nice touch.
Got used leather seats for 100.00 out of a wrecked Camaro. Nice thing about later seats is that they also recline as well as fold forward.

the seats and console from a late model 2 door s-blazer work great...the seats are the same width as the chevelle bucket, have to fab the brakets some but works well...Rob
