: Any Charter Comm Cable TV Experts Here?

My wife pays her mom's cable tv bill, as her mom is on a limited fixed income. Over the last several bills there has has been several pay per view movie charges each month show up on her moms bill. Mom does not order the movies - she doesn't even know how to.

There could be a scenario where her son or her grandson who live nearby and frequently drop by, could be ordering movies, but both deny being the culprit.

Charter claims their system is foolproof - we matched up the cable box number with the number Charter has and they are the same. Charter claims the remote control tied to that cable box on her living room tv has been used to order the movies.

Could some neighbor or outsider be hacking the system? Or is there some other easy answer here?

Is their pay per view movie system bullit proof? Anyone have a similar experience?

Thanks,

Tony

As far as I know, it can't be hacked but it's may be possible to clone the box, but that woudl require access to the original box

Call Charter and ask them for the specific time that the movie was ordered. This should help you figure out if anyone was in the house.

Likewise, Charter should be able to either disable the 'on demand' feature or instruct you how to lock it out. Ihave a Moxi box from Charter and via the Parentla Control, I canlock out the PPV

When you call them, if you continue to get someone who doesn't speak English (typically the case when I call), call back and select the option for "New Service" - 99.9% of the time, this will get you a person who's easy to converse with and they will be able to help you out (even though it's new service sales)

Option #2 is to see if there's a local office and drive over to explain the situation

Edit: How to lock out the PPV - page down to find the correct digital box

If you call them be prepared. Have some lunch made and a comfortable chair. You will also need a cordless phone so that you can use the bathroom. I reccommend a hands free set so that you manage you childrens birthday partys. Do not attempt on a cell phone unless you have the charger pluged into the phone. I highly reccommend taking valiums to keep your nerves calmed down.:mad::mad::mad::mad: Did I mention I love talking to them people. And shhh if your really quiet you can here your rates going up while your talking to them.

My guess is she is ordering the movies without realizing it is a PPV thing. Or someone in the situation is lying like a rug.

Use the lockout and the problem should go away regardless. Make sure you are the only one who knows the passcode to remove the lockout.
