Noticed today, that plumes or vapors were coming out of the 850DP after shutting down the engine.

Rechecked fuel pressure (@6.5psi), float levels(right at the bottom of the sight plug) and the transfer slots (0.020"). There is no phenolic insulator b/w the carb and the intake but the bowls dont seem to get very hot.

What could be the cause? I have set the float levels with the motor hot but OFF.....cant check the levels at idle because of the fender shaking idle! Is this method acceptable? Since the fuel pressure stays at 6.5psi for 3 - 5 seconds after shutdown, i think that ought to fill up the bowls.

Fuel pump is a BG Super Speedway (172gph) mechanical.

Thanks in advance guys!

Nothing to worry about - they always do that.

Turn up the idle speed temporarily to set the floats running. You can't set fuel pressure accurately with a mechanical pump with the engine off...

The vapor you see comes from one or more cylinders sitting with an intake valve open. This is normal.

Well i am glad that its not a problem. But strangely, I am sure that this was not happening a month ago when I was fiddling with the carb.

Also, there is some smoke/fumes coming out of the breathers which was definitely not there before. Since the engine is quite fresh and compression is good, I am assuming its not blow by.

Is it possible that since, the car has been driven very little lately and the weather has turned colder, condensation is present within the motor which is causing these fumes/vapors?

Since the weather turned colder, you are probably just able to see it better than before.

Xtreme, you are right! The vapors are more prominent in the evening than at noon.

Thanks guys!
