This may seem like a simple question, but i was wondering where i could find info on the stock heads in my 72 350 Malibu. I am running a 670 Holley carb, 1 5/8" hedders, a 2200 stall 2004r trans and 3:55's with 28" tall tires. Does anyone have a cam recommendation to fit this combo while retaining the stock heads. Low end torque and fuel mileage are must. Any pointers??

I have a fairly stock 350 and I just put in the comp cams High Energy 268H cam. And I'm pretty happy with it. It's only been in for a week so I'm unsure of the gas milage and My carb isn't perfectly tuned to it. But torque is deffinantly way up over stock and the choppy idle just sounds cool.
I'm not sure the differences but I have the heads from a 400 on my 350 they have larger valves than the stock heads and mine are 76cc combustion chambers because I drive so much I need to be able to run cheap pump gas.

You would probably want to look into a r.v. type cam. Fuel mileage? its a Chevelle,no payments, use it on gas :D

Crane H-266-2 or max H272-2 or some similar part #
They have 266 or 272 adv duration and 110 or 112 LSA and 210 or 216 @.050 duration.
Or one of the Lunati lobes with a UH in the lobe # of similar .050 duration.
Some people might recommend going as small as 206 @.050.
Any bigger and you'll start trading low end torque for marginal increase in top end HP. Because of the stock heads.
You should verify retainer to seal clearance on the exh of the 272, but all the smaller ones will fit no problem.

First sure you got the stock heads? Alot can happen in 30 some odd years LOL.
With its probable 76cc or so heads and 1.94/1.5 valves I would think you'd be best sticking with a mild, RV type cam as everyone else said.
