I have been reading Vizards book on budget performance small blocks as I am going to build one. He keeps mentioning using 6" rods as a recommended alternative. It just so happens a friend has a new set of 6" that have been sized and shot peened. Are there going to be more clearance problems with 6" rods? Also the rods are free if I want them. The price is definately right.

yes there will be more clearance problems with 6" rods. I dont understand the reconditioned, shot peened 6"rods though..The only 6" rods I know of are aftermarket..but hey..free is a good price

Using 6" rods compared to what?
If you are referring to 400 rods yes, there is a difference at the cam with most rods.
If you are referring to 5'7 vs 6" there is no difference in clearance with the same type of rods.

by all means, grab them!then take them to a machinist and have them thoroughly checked(including magnaflux) before installing.even a good friend can't control what might have happened to those rods before he got them.better safe than sorry! smile.gif

You will have to excuse my ignorance. These rods are new aftermarket but have been to the machinist. He was shipped these by mistake (had ordered 5.7 rods). When he had everything at the machinist is when he found out they were 6". I guess he couldn't return them as they had been shotpeened. Thanks
