Anyone change cams in a '69 BB with the engine and all body parts installed? I know the center grille support and probably the grille has to come out. Does the bumper and lower valance have to come out too? Better now than during stick removal.

Good luck!

Von,i have done it mult times on 69/70 BBC & SBC chevelle's with the motors in the car and all body parts on. Like is mentioned above,be patient and things should go ok.
The only thing i had to do was (with a hammer/ouch?) move (lightly tap) the radiator verticle brace over approx 1/8-1/4 inch to get enough clearnce to remove the cam from the motor because the cam hits this brace when it's almost all the way out. Then i just tap the brace lightly back into place after the cam is in and you can't tell it was sever moved.

FWIW, I got the old cam out and new in today. The vertical support did not interfere. But the bumper to grille valance was a direct hit with about 2" of the rear cam journal to go. I had to remove 4 bolts securing it to the three vertical supports and push it down about 1/2" in the middle, at the cam.

Not yet. In the process of degreeing it in. Also doing some other things while it's apart. It will probably be sometime next week. How about yours?

I didn't have to remove any of those items on my 69', I loosened the vertical support and moved it an 1/8" and the cam came right out.
no problem graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Could be a difference in motor mount heights or rear trans mount height. Did your cam go under or over the valance?

Von,i ment to tell you the other day when i replyed to your post that your car looks great, my 69 looks bone stock like your's does.
If you don't mind me asking, are you replacing the cam due to a worn cam or are you stepping up to a hotter cam?
If your going with a hotter cam which cam was in your car and which cam are you upgrading to? Also, what carb, heads, comp, exhaust, and gear, trany (auto or stick)are your running in your car?
I am asking this becasue i may upgrade my cam in the future and since we have basically what looks to be the same setup i was wondering what your motor/combo was.
