Sorry for the double post, but I have had this on the main board without a lot of feedback so I thought I could get a better response here.

This is my situation.

I went by the muffler shop and talked to the guy about doing my pipes and this is what he is recommending. He will make a 3" pipe that will go back about 15" and have the 2 1/2" pipes to the mufflers go off at a 45. (Below is my photoshop rendition of it)

I know all of the cutouts I have seen are with the cutout off on the 45 but I want the 3" the straight thru pipe. This is not a race car, it is just for my amazement and amusement. Is there anything wrong with this setup ? Is there a problem with having the straight pipe as the one with the cutout valve ?

I did look into the electric cutouts and if I can get them in the 3" that would be perfect. I liked the design of the ones on the Grand National site because they have longer slots that make getting them in at an angle easier. They are made by DMH (http://www.dmhperformance.com/Our_Products.html) Performance . I emailed the guy and he got right back to me with a bunch of info on the cutouts. Any real world feedback on these ?

Thanks !

Tom

OK, I'm sitting here on a Sunday evening and my phone rings - it is the guy from DHM Performance ! This is at 8pm HIS time. He called me to make sure I got all the info on his cutouts and wanted to see if I had any other questions.

THAT'S what I call customer service ! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I plan to buy the cutouts from him not only because I felt they were the best ones available, but he took the time to call ME and answer all my questions. He is a little more expensive, but I can see the difference he is talking about between his cutouts and the competition.

If your even thinking about electric cutouts you need to talk to this guy.

It sure would be nice if somebody would invent a tunable pressure sensitive cuttout without the electric motor, that way it would open when you put your foot into it but be quiet when you are just out cruizing. The electric gizmos sound like they could be a real pain down the road. JMHO graemlins/beers.gif

I thought the same thing about electrical problems down the road, but I have been checking other forums and the biggest problem I have heard of is some of them don't seal very well when closed.

This particular type has Viton seals on the areas where the butterfly closes so it doesn't leak.

I talked to a couple of guys that have had them on for a year or two and have had no troubles at all. It's not like your using them all the time either. It takes 4 second to actuate, the same to close. Even if you used them every other day for two years that's only 48 working minutes. I would hope ANY electrical device could withstand that !
