What is your intended usage? What percent street, and what percent strip?

Are you looking for max performance and ET, or do you want more docile street manners?

Max ET = 8"
more street performance = 10"

Not to say you can't use an 8" on the street, but it isn't designed for daily driven cars.

E-mail Ed as with his excellent record keeping, he can probably give you a real good idea of what to expect ET wise going from a 10" to an 8", and also how the car manners differed between the two.

Today many converter firms going more and more towards 10"

They can build them loose, tight. Just give them right specs.

I just put an 8" in my Chevelle. The 8" is .15-.2 quicker and gained me 2 mph in the 1/8th mile over a 10". However, it is not a very streetable converter in my opinion. My 10" flashed to 4500 and the 8" flashes to 4900 but the 10" drove much better then the 8" since ATI builds a lot of free speed into their 8" MRT converters. I do no street driving at all so I can only tell you what I notice driving around in the pits and down the return road. If you are going to be doing more street driving and cruising than racing I would stick with a 10".

If you are interested, email me your combo and I can give you my recommendation on a converter stator and fin angle combo. IMO the best way to go is run the smallest diameter converter that allows the tightest fin angle feasible for the stall speed you require. This will give the best efficiency possible. The worst way to go is to use a converter with an excessively negative fin angle in it to attain enough stall speed. As an example, I have had a good number of 10" street/strip converters done for guys who were wanting stall speeds in the area of 3K or just under. Often, they would have used a loose 11" converter to get the same stall speed, but it would have had more slippage due to the internal pump fin angle. Anyhow, enough rambling....

I have been running my 8" ATI on the street and strip for the last 4+ years. Granted I do not drive it everyday (ex. when it rains) but it is a tight convertor and had many trips down the track. It works fine for me on the street but I do not have a 10" to compare it with. Stall is 3800. Just more info...

This is why I think the reason the 9.5 BTE I got wasn`t anywhere near the mark with its 150 degree NEGATIVE fin angle.

I would trade it back to you for a 10" that worked or maybe even trade for a tight 8" with max + fin angle.

Let me know.

Thanks for the input guys. I talked with ATI yesterday and for what I am running it made a lot of sense to run with the 8". THey have EXCELLENT customer service. I did not pay too much more for it either. Easy decision.
