What is the best camshaft company for performance and quality. I hear a lot a doggin on Comp Cams ,but personally i think they have the best selections.

Lunati (w/ UD engineers :D ), cammotion come to mind for me.
I thought the cam motion people were nice and made a good recommendation for the cam I should have used (harold was in transition at that point).
I talked to harold and was about to buy my cam but wanted to double check with my engine builder first, then they went into transition. He is a great to talk to and steers you in the right direction.
Crower and crane confuse me with the advertised durations sometimes so I steer clear, but there is nothing wrong with them.
cammotion and lunati-ud have a good selection and usually try to keep things reasonable for what you are doing. I have no experience with crane or crower. I have had two comp cams and find them neither thrilling or terrible.
If I were to buy another cam it would be from either Lunati/UD or cammotion, but I really know diddly squat about cars or cams compared to some people on this board.

matt OK-- time to get back to work! man I am lazy.

I don't think people 'dog' Comp. Part of it is simple stats, they sell more cams and therefore have more problems. Some opinions are that the XE grinds are too loud is all. I would agree. XE's are hard on the valvetrain with all that slammin' going on, but I don't think anymone disputes their performance. In fact, most people don't know anything but Comp cams.

The XE grinds have an aggressive ramp, and because of the velocity of the valves, they make a little more valve train noise than most...I had a hydraulic XE284 that everyone thought was a solid cam... They are a little noisy, but I personally think it sounds pretty good. I have an XE Solid going in this weekend, so we'll see how that sounds pretty soon :D

That and also since they do sell more, they have more lobes flattened which people bitch about on the Boards to alert everybody about..

PS., Erson, Reed, Schnieder, Delta, etc, etc..

Heck, Crane ended up with, I think, Cam Dynamics, Wolverine Blue Racer, and maybe General Kinetics(??)

But I gotta feeling Harold did do a bunch of the better ones that weren't really one-off customs..
