I just picked up a used th400 trans and I'd like to get it magna fluxed to check for cracks in the case. What should I expect to pay? $50-100 or so, or more?
Thanks in advance for any info.

Aluminum isn't magnetic, so "magna-fluxing" isn't possible.
Why are you worried about checking the case for cracks? Visually inspect the case for cracks after a thorough disassembly and cleaning...
Most common place for cracks in the bellhousing.

There is a process known a Zyglo that we used to check aluminum rods for cracking. It one of a series of products made by Magnaflux.

Thanks ya'll! I want to be sure the case isn't cracked before I go through the rebuild. I picked it up used for $75. :beers:

There is no reason to do any extensive crack checking on the case. A visual inspection will suffice.
You can Zyglo check it (dye penetrant) but it would be wasted money.
There are normal failure points than any rebuilder would know to look for. If the bellhousing isn't cracked and the pan bolt holes are cracked, the case should be good. The case lugs for the intermediate pressure plate need to be checked also.
