Will A/C components from a 70-73 camaro fit in my 68 Chevelle? I have some parts, but i need the compressor and a few other parts and found someone selling a complete A/C for a 70 camaro.

The compressor will fit, the brackets will fit (assuming you are using the same water pump as the Camaro long versus short). The condensor may or may not work, you may have to modify some holding brackers or such. I don't think the hoses will necessarily fit. You can go to most A/C shops, and even some Napa's and other parts houses make the hoses. You may even try a tractor supply company that makes hoses. You will need to know what tips you need etc. Alot of times you can drive your car in and they will match the threads and such. I paid a little more than $130 for my parts. You will need to buy a new filter/drier.

You can grab the front of the pullies (the clutch) and see if it turns freely, it wont turn easily because you are turning a compressor, also check the pullies to make sure they turn independantly of the clutch.

If possible you can ground the body of the compressor, and put Positive to the lead coming from it, if it clicks then the electro magnet works. Now this doesn't mean there are no leaks from the front seal under the clutch. And just because the pullies turn independantly from the clutch and that the clutch turns doesn't mean that the clutch ingages to the pullies. Hope this all helps out. These compressor can be found for under $150. Here is one, it is from Kragen Auto Parts.

Also if you get the parts, I would definately have the parts, and your system flushed to make sure there is no solid nor liquid contamination is in it. Old compressors and hoses break down and send the pieces into the system. You may look into getting a new expansion valve from your local parts house (if yours has one).
