: My stupid ford ranger won't stay running
FlameOut Jul 31st, 08, 12:13 PM Anyone know what would cause a 4.0 fuel injected engine to not idle? If I keep my foot slightly on the accelerator, it will run ok, but as soon as I remove it, the engine dies, because it's not idling high enough. This has happened probably 5 times in the past few months, but usually corrects itself somehow.
Must be some kind of selanoid, or some other type of computer controlled device causing this, but I don't know where to even start.
Give me a 60's-70's BB Chevy engine any day over this crap
mwiggett Jul 31st, 08, 12:21 PM Sounds like a possible idle aircontrol motor that is stuck all the way in and not allowing air to get into the throttle body at idle with the throttle plate closed.
FlameOut Jul 31st, 08, 3:07 PM Thank you Mike, that was the problem. Of course I had never heard of the part, or new where to look, but found this photo online. Removed the IAC, smacked it around a bit and reinstalled. Started right up and idled nice. Guess I better replace the part with a new one now.

Thanks again, these forums are great!
LeoP Jul 31st, 08, 6:02 PM Yep, that won't last long and in the winter, you'll need it even worse.
mwiggett Jul 31st, 08, 6:43 PM Glad to have helped.
Get a can of Amsoil throttle body cleaner and clean your throttle body/ induction system.

SuperChevy402 Aug 1st, 08, 11:33 PM I'll agree with the AIC. My brother has a Exploder with the 4.0, same thing was happening and that was the fix. Well, as fixed as one could expect with a Ford :D

My setiments exactly. Every single one of those Fords has the problem circled for the owner right on the grille :D
