I haven't got the know-how to estimate a car's ET time judging by it's components.

Starting with the parts listed below, can you construct a recipe to get my 1968 Chevelle SS396 convertible into the 13's in the 1/4?:

ZZ454 (GMPP PN: 12498777) - 440hp, 500lb/ft@3250rpm

Doug's mini-headers

TH700R4 trans

Eaton posi w/3.73

Can you add to and/or modify the formula? Please help me along with advising me on what I can expect. Need advice on a rear suspension setup and streetable sticky tires too. I am thinking that BFG Drag Radials may play a part here.

I'm protecting a numbers-matching 396/325 with a GM crate. I haven't got garage services or a workshop to build my own. This car will be an occasional weekend driver.

I like the SSM lift bars and BFG drag radials, it sounds like everything else you have will get you there. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Cowboy,
I helped a friend put that motor, the 454HO, in a '72 Chevelle. He used a TH350 with a TCI 2500 converter. 3.73's and 275/60 drag radials,SSM bars. Carb was a 770 cfm street avenger. Ran pretty consistant High 12.50's 108 mph. You should easily meet your goal if the combo is set up right.

Didn't SSM go out of business?

no SSM didn't go out of business, they sponser the site maliburacing.com.
i would hope that it would run better than a 13sec 1/4mi. i ran low 13's with a nothing 350 in my 71. i don't want to predict an et for you, in case you don't meet that time, but it'll be under a 13 for sure.

Stick with small tube headers and the Flowmaster 2.5 exhaust kit (get the kit w/o the mufflers, its only $200,and its an awesome fitting kit)
3310 vacuum secondary Holley, and a convertor that flashes to 2500-2800.Drag radials are a must for reasonable traction. You should be in the high 12's or quicker depending on driving technique, traction, and tuning.
