I recently purchased a complete original 69 hardtop power window system from a "friend of a friend" to put in my convertible. Before I bought this set up I did some research on the internet and found claims that 1) 69 power windows are a 1 year only affair and 2) aftermarket hardtop and convertible regulator kits are identical. Item 2) leads me to believe that original regulators should be identical as well. I haven't found any source that identifies specifically the part numbers for the front and rear regulators to be able to verify whether they are indeed the same or not. The part numbers are usually stamped in orange paint on the regulator motor for this vintage of GM regulators. Is there someone out there who knows for sure that hardtop and convertible regulators are indeed the same or not? I have little doubt that the door regulators are the same...it's the quarter windows that I'm wondering about. If anyone has a convertible that has the correct part numbers I could verify whether the hardtop units are the same by looking at the numbers on my regulators. Thank you...sorry for the long winded question.

I would be skeptical of the claim that 69 power windows were a 69-only thing. Power door locks are a different story.....in 69 they were vacuum operated; 70 and later were electric.

Wish I could help you on the regulators, but I'm clueless  It would be no surprise that the aftermarket stuff would be the same for coupe or convert, as there would be so little market for convert-only power window setups that it wouldn't be cost-effective to produce.

According to the hollander interchange manual 1968 stands alone as does 1969,while 70-72 are interchangeable .I have spoken to the folks at electric life and they indicated that their kits fit 69-72.I was told that 68 was a stand alone year due to the vent window,so maybe 69 is not very different from 70-72 and might only require small modifications. This is only for front regulator assemblies. The hollander interchange manual also shows that the rears are the same 68-72 for all chevelles buicks, cutlassses and lemans. It does not break out convertibles. The Hollander manual also shows 69 door glass as being a stand alone year,so it looks like you need to get parts specifically from a 69 car as far as the front doors are concerned.

I purchased the electric-life kit and sent it back. It doesn't even come close to fitting a 69!

First it won't bolt directly in, and second the rest of it doesn't fit either! You would have to do MAJOR hacking on this kit! ... which would destroy the warantee...and then no gaurantee of it working right.

I have done alot of research and 69's are indeed one-year unique.

HOWEVER, there are 2 other companies that make 69 specific windows. They are NOT cheap though, but it's their standard price for any car. If you REALLY need power windows and are willing to pay, try these two companies:

Nu-relics @ http://www.nu-relics.com/chevl69f.html

The other is Specialty Power Windows.Their web site don't show it but I have seen their kits for 69 Chevelles at car shows.
