: Getting close to the end of my chevelle project

Here are some pics of my chevelle project. When I first started I planned on a real pro touring car. But it turned out more of a restomod than a true pro touring. Just some wiring and do the interior and it will be done.
The car started off as a solid malibu with only 64000 original miles. There was very little rust repair but a lot of body work to get it straight. I did all the work myself and the help of a few friends. I stripped the car, did the body work and painted it in my garage. I built the topend of the motor my buddy built the bottom end and did all the machine work. I installed the air ride suspension. I welded in a sheetmetal cover for the rear package tray and painted it to match. I welded in the center of the radiator support and got rid of the hood latch. Will be using just hood pins. I designed machined and polished my own wheels. I made a '55 chevy dash fit into the car using the original chevelle dash mounts. Hope you guys like it. This site has been great and has answered many of my questions and then some. This was my first paint job and chevelle build. Here are a few pics of my build. Let me know what you guys think.

This is the car when I bought it-

Looks nice - I would be proud too. Would love to see how the dash works out and some shots of the package tray - Mine's mangled and I hadn't thought of doing what you did.

Thanks, you can kind of see the package tray in the picture showing the car from the back. Its the picture off to the side. I kinda screwed up posting the pics, never posted multiple pics before. Also sorry that the pics are so big I didn't realize they were that size.

The wheels are 20"x8 with 245/35/20 tires all around. The motor is a 350 bored .040 over, AFR 195 eliminators, lunati voodoo 60122 hyd. roller, holley stealth ram with custom smoothed plenum, accel 32lb/hr. injectors, holley commander 950 Pro ECU. Backed up by a Precision Industries Vigilante 9.5" lockup 3200 stall converter and a built 700R4 and a 12 bolt rear with moser axles, eaton posi, girdle and 4.10 gears. Just thought I'd give you guys a little info on the drivetrain. Let me know if you have any questions. I'll post some more pics later today. Thanks for the positive feedback.

Thanks for all the nice comments. I'm hopefully going to firing it up for the first time today. Aaron how do you like the 60122 cam. I haven't really seen alot of people using it. How does it perform on the street, does it have good low end torque. I'm hoping it will sound nice and lumpy. Thanks again guys.

Kevin,
I did not have to modify the rear wheels at all. The wheels are only 8 inches wide and there is plenty of room even with the air ride fully deflated. The front wheels do hit the inner fender a little when the suspension is deflated but its not bad. If I didn't have the 2" drop spindles up front I don't think it would hit at all. But up at ride height I can turn the wheels lock to lock and doesn't rub.

there is actually quite a few on here who run the cam.. but in AFR headed 383's..

my motor needs more tuning. its only got around 9.8:1cr, 180cc heads, dual plan and a 750 vac sec carb.
again keep in mind these numbers were after it was together (less than 2k miles on it), and still needing a better tune..im running full length headers, 2.5" xpipe, moroso spiral flow mufflers, and flowmaster tails.

303whp/335wtq.
13.6@102 2.25 60ft. soft launch shifting at about 5800.. which is low.

it sounds great, nice lump. drives very nice, almost no cam surge below 1500 (im running a stick and 3.55 gears). pulls hard past 3k.

throw as much initial in it as you can. im running 20* initial now, and going to bump it up higher in the spring. the cam does not like anything less than 16*. hard time idling, low on performance. drives bad.

i need to get a better video one day...

wow that sounds like its got more lope than mine..

what exhaust do you have on that?

The exhaust is a dual 3" with a crossover that I welded up using one of jegs dual exhuast kits and flowmaster super 44's dumped at the rear axle. And for headers they are a mid-length no-name stainless ones off ebay. But the headers fit and look awesome. They only have 1 5/8" primaries kinda wish they where 1 3/4". But for the money I can't complain. The car sounds way better than I expected. I wasn't sure how the super 44's where going to sound, but I couldn't be happier. They have a real deep mean sound to them. I've always been a fan of flowmaster, I'm sure they will have the interior drone that alot of people complain about but it doesn't bother me. I decided to go 3" because I wanted it loud, I'm sure that 2.5" would have been fine for my motor, but I love the sound of 3" even if I lost a couple of horsepower.

Jon,
Great looking car. What is the name of the color? Looks like maybe what I want for my
'72 when I get to repainting it.
Thanks.....Bob

Thanks Bob, the color is hugger orange, its also called monaco orange, its a factory color for 69 chevelles.

Jon, I thought I could see a hint of red but I was wrong. I'd like to repaint the current color on my '72 which is not red-red like most Chevelles, but with a hint of orange in it. I don't think it's a factory color for the '72 but I don't know. The original owner is n/a.
Hope you post more pics when the car is finished.
