: Window Rub Strips
von Jul 30th, 08, 11:04 AM Anyone know where I can get replacements for a '69 2 dr hdtp? These are the cloth strips glued to two tabs on the outer door shell to keep the window from rubbing metal. I thought they would be included in the window felt kit (PUI) I bought but weren't.
Dan Orgill Jul 30th, 08, 12:04 PM Never seen them in the aftermarket.
DUKE 69 Jul 30th, 08, 1:55 PM Von,
Unfortunately, Dan is right, because I haven't seen them either, and I looked a lot! Ended up rooting around in wife's sewing stuff and found some heavy material that seemed "good enough". Glued it on and so far...."good enough". Can't remember exactly what type of material it was but I do recall it was just about the right thickness.
Good luck
Duke

Yes and thanks but only the cloth strips. Already have the plates. Before I pay $50 plus God's knows how much for shipping to take care of both doors I'll scrounge up something like Duke did and glue onto the plates.
Speeds70ss Aug 1st, 08, 12:54 PM I used adhesive backed Velcro on mine, obviously the cloth side as opposed to the plastic side, and just trimmed to fit. Seems to work great.

Same here, thats what we use. I have lots of the other (hard) sides of velcro if anyone needs it...lol

Sounds like just the ticket. Thank you.

This was the quote I meant. Thanks.

When I did my SS 9 years ago I got a "Repops" kit and I believe it included the rub strips. This kit was PUI which looks like nice quality but didn't include rub strips.

Did a search and found this old thread for the answer to one of my two questions. The Velcro idea is great for the rub strips. What about the other guides using more of a fuzzy felt material on these? http://eastcoastchevelle.com/productimages/Hardware_1199829577.jpg What kind of material can I use to redo these. What have you guys used? I hate to buy the whole piece. Does someone just sell the material? Thanks, Bob

Those ARE the rub strips we were talking about. Remove the felt from the metal brackets and replace with the "soft" half of velcro material.

Von: What about these? What are these used for and can I use the same material on these as well? http://eastcoastchevelle.com/productimages/Hardware_1222178681.jpg Thanks Bob

These are actually the ones I meant. The others the same material will work on but harder to install because of the plastic buttons.

Plastic Buttons

IIRC those have a plastic button (orig GM) on the backside which makes it harder to replace the material. But the same soft half of the velcro material works well on these as well as the others.
Remove the old material and clean the metal off. The last one I did I wire wheeled clean. Glass beading is good too.
Then I used black seat belt material.
Cut it right and fold it over.
Glued it on and clamped it and let that sit till dry.
Works perfect.
