just in the processs in swapping a rally dash into a 71 chevelle.

customer says its just a bolt in and the non rally dash wiring (engine, headlights ect) will swap right over. installed it and i have nothing but the horn working. no lights no gauges, no power to the coil, starter ect) nothing.

so is this a direct swap or do i need a rally harness as well for the engine compartment as well? he says i do not but i dont trust somebody who knows so much has no idea how it goes toghether

dash was out of a 70 monte carlo as far as i know. going to check for sure though

Engine harness is the same except you will have to add two wires for the amp gauge.
Make sure the engine harness connector is on tight. Sounds like your not getting any power to the fuse block. Check the Bat and IGN terminals on the fuse block with the key on.
Make sure the harness was from a 70 or 71, a 72 will not work. Easy to spot the 72 harness it will have the TCS relay and key minder buzzzer on the under dash harness and may have the seat belt light and buzzer.

awesome, thanks Steve. talked to the owner and it seems this dash is out of a 1972 monte so it wont work. will source out a 71 dash harness and swap it over.

thank you for the info:beers:

so, is this as easy as just ordering a 1971 underdash harness and plugging it into the 72 dash or are there differences in the gauges?

71 harness is a plug in, gauge panel is identical for 71 and 72. If your dash is a 72 and it has the seat belt light there will not be one on the 71 harness.
