Hello,

i am in college (hence the Cheap...) i currently have a 66 chevelle 230 straight 6 which i love. however, i am getting tired of my turbo 350 (had a powerglide but when a friend gives you a free tranny with a shift kit...) so, on with the questions... i want to convert to manual but the only kits i can find cost in the 3000$$$ range with either a 5 or 6 speed. are there any other options to make things cheaper? i know my 6 has the same bolt pattern as a small block for the transmission. so, it would seem i could just go to pick a part, find a gm truck and rip out everything i would need? or am i missing something? thanks for the help. if only i was not a poor college student, cars are an expensive hobby...

Find a T10 4 spd. Get an aluminum bellhousing(can be had cheap if you know where to look). Get a truck flywheel, clutch, ect. Find a set of swinging pedals from a junker. It wont be real cheap, but you dont really want a truck 4 spd, as they'll have the granny 1st gear, and are very short and tall. HTH some.

Check out www.craigslist.com for cheap stuff.
