Suddenly my Chevelle became very hard to start,from nowhere the problem occured !

I checked for spark and there were none EXCEPT exactly when I release the key from START position......So when the key is realesed and on it's way back one position then the spark comes ?????????

So today I changed the ign/steering wheel keylock and the ignition switch....But the same thing happened with the spark

///// Need help please.

What was the last thing you did before the ignition key change?

maybe somethong happend to the 12v source wire from the starter to the coild that delievrs 12v only when the ign key is in the cranking postions. Then where you let off the key its back to the lower resistance wire voltage for the points if still running them.

But the point here is the power to the coil/ign comes from 2 different places,12v ign power comes from starter when cranking only and then when key is released after the motor fires the power comes from a resistance wire from the bulkhead so check thoses 2 circuts out.

But untill you can find problem simply install a temporary fused push button wired from the pos term on battery to pos/power side of coil . Then when cranking you can hit the button for the 12v the ign needs to fire the motor,then once it fires release the key & buttom at the same approx time and things should be ok since you stated there is spark when key is released.

This will give you use of the car untill you get the problem loctaed & fixed.

Thank's ....But I have the MSD 6 box.....So the wire from the coil goes to the box (if I remember it right....But I will check the wire from the starter ///// KIM

It seems my trouble is the MSD box.....

Your ignition switch is adjustable. Did you try that? Perhaps it's out of position.

Tryed that today....Still the same problem !
I now know all there is to know about taking down and putting back the ign keylock and the ignswitch ( have done that like 10 times today)..........

It was the little red cable from the MSD to the ign key...I had power when key was on ignition but not when cranking....The power just disapeared when I turned the key from ON to Cranking .....
