Hey guys, i am getting ready to finish up my motor hopefully this weekend, the goal is to have it running by the end of the year! I want your guys seasoned opinion on how much HP/torque i will make with this combo.

440 BBC (427 .060 over)
215 heads 2.19/1.88 valves, port cleanup, throats opened, valves unshrouded
Speed Pro 2300F60 pistons for 9.8:1 CR 8.0 DCR for those who are interested
UD 272/282F12 solid flat tappet cam +4 degrees advance
Edlebrock Performer RPM intake
Holley 3310 750 vac sec.
Dynomax 1 7/8 full length headers through 2.25 inch pipes with mufflers.

I think that is all the pertinent info. This car previously went 13.9 @ 100 with the SBC, this is through a th350 with a 2400 SS converter, 3.55 gears and a posi on 265/50/15 GT Qualifiers.

Thanks guys!

Daniel

I don't know about HP,but I bet with a good 60 ft. it will run mid/low 12's with 3.55 gears and your convertor,probably about 108-110 MPH

That would be awesome, that is right about my goal ET wise. This is in a 70 Chevelle that weighed 3640 without me in it, and my toolbox in the trunk.

I think you'll be choking it with 2.25" pipes and mufflers.

Get a minimum of a 2.5" exhaust,including the tailpipes.

Dumb question, but did you check the piston/deck height? TRW 2399's are 454 pistons. The comp ht is 1.645, 427 motors use a 1.765 comp ht piston. If you really did install 2399's with a 3.76" crank and a stock 6.135" rod your pistons are about 1/8" down in the hole.

Sorry, not 2399s, that was for another motor for my friend, the number was just in my head. It is the 2300F60 pistons .140 dome, 16.8 cc dome volume. That is the one i am using and it sits in the cylinder real nice. Edited my original post.

You guys really think the 2.25 inch exhaust is too small? Well, i am going to have to get new pipes anyway from my headers back since the existing exhaust system was setup for my SBC headers. Guess ill need a little bit more money to have my friend put exhaust on it then smile.gif

..the .140 domes makes more sense ;)

Cool  Because for the record, a 454 L2399 piston installed with a 427 crank yields a whopping 6.7/1 CR. But don't feel bad, I guarantee you wouldn't be the first or the last person to have done it. Just in case, I know a guy with a slightly used 14-71 that would wake a 6.7/1 CR motor right up!

Daniel, glad to hear your getting close!

My guess would be 510 hp & 510 torque.

Here's an interesting comparo for you, my motor:
20 cubic inches bigger(454 vs. 427)
781 heads (all the same upgrades)
Same compression
Same cam advanced +4
Air Gap RPM
1-3/4" dia. headers
850 DP less choke horn

It ran a tire spinning 12.57 @ 114.08 mph with a 3000 stall BTE converter and 3.08 gear.

I'm thinking low 12's are in the bag for you graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Excellent Jeff, that sounds like a ton of fun to me. Right about my performance goal.

I think this will be quite a mild motor also, it is going to see mostly street miles, and i can't wait!!!! Soon!!!

I would go minimum 3" pipes and mufflers, then 2.5" tailpipes if you decide to run them. I have dumps at the axle. You get alot of reverberations that way.

Yeah, on the SBC 327 that was in there previously i had dumps before the axel, but i will probably go all the way out back for this setup. I luckily have a long time high school friend whose dad owns an exhaust place a couple of block from where i live. You think 3 inch pipes and mufflers out 2.5 inch? hmmm...
