After going with vacuum a few times I decided to try a mighty demon double pumper on the last couple of builds, I thought for a mostly street car with limited track use that it might be a soggy gas hog but I was wrong. I was able to tune the carb until the exhaust smelled more like a modern muscle car without that dreaded stench that sticks to your clothes and finds its way into your house. The thottle response was great also!

In general auto trans gets vac sec but the vac sec opening rate has to be setup correctly for best perf or mech sec for man trans and the mech secondaires are easier to setup and respond quicker esp for a car that will see a lot of strip like yours will.
But either carb will get the job run and the vac sec carb may be a little more street friendly when it come to the idle circut being cleaner/leaner then your avg dbl pump mech sec carb.
