Are the hydraulic roller lifters for the Gen V blocks different from the rest? I know that some blocks required "taller" lifters but I am not sure if the Gen V is one that requires them. And if so will it require non-standard push rods? I need to order the appropriate lifters from Comp Cams or Crane soon.
Any advice and help would be appreciated.

Gen 5 and Gen 6 roller lifters are the same. And rollers are taller than flat tappets. The lifter bores are taller as well in Gen 5 and Gen6.
BUT, some early Gen 5 engines were flat tappet engines and don't have the taller bores or the bosses for the lifter retainer.
Double check your block so that you get the right parts. Early Gen 5 uses Mark 4 stuff.

I don't know where the division starts but roller lifters for the 60's - 80's V8s are refered to as retrofit rollers... Check out a few of the cam sites for date details...

Chas,
If your block is machined to accept this retainer there will be 4 tapped holes in the lifter valley.
It is a good chance you have a hyd roller block

the Factory Hyd Roller lifter bores are 0.300" taller than a standard lifter bore.
I sell Federal Mogul Retro-Fit Hyd roller lifters for BBC but they will only fit your block if you have a flat tappet lifter bore block. Otherwise you will need the .300 long Cranes which are pricey or you could use factory GM Hyd roller lifter setup shown in the picture.
Don't forget if you have Gen V heads the valvetrain is non adjustable. You will need to replace the studs with regular studs and rocker arms.

Thanks for the info. I will check the valley and trhe numbers tomorrow. I do know that it is a Gen V 454 4-bolt main one piece rear main seal block. I ordered the Comp Cams 887-16 lifters and 7/16 chromoly standard length push rods.
The heads are Pro Topline Cast Iron 320's that have been ported, polished, dual Comp Cam springs, titanium retainers, Comp Cams studs and Pro-Magnum Roller Rockers. Hopefully they will work. If not, I will have to send the lifters back and get the longer ones.
I will post back tomorrow.

Update on information. The numbers on the block are: 10114132
These pictures show the lifter valley. I do not have the four tapped holes in the valley, just three machinist holes that are plugged.

So with this information, are the "retro-fit" Comp Cams R-lifters, 887-16, the correct ones to run? Also will the standard length pushrods work?
Thanks to all!
