: Relay Wiring Help

Just finished getting the a/c charged on my 69 Malibu and the shop tells me I need more air across the condenser before he can give it a full charge. Clutch fan and half-shroud not cutting in so I decided to go electric.

My plan is to install dual fans. I've got a 16" fan to install as a "puller" behind the radiator. I'll set it up with a thermostat. The second fan is a 14" and I'm going to set it up as a "pusher" and install it next to the condenser. I want to wire it in-line with the compressor so it will come on when I turn on the air. The thought is to get air directly into the condenser and also so the fans can start at separate times to lessen the load.

I purchased a 40 amp Single Stat Relay and wire connector from Napa for this purpose. This is where my question is; the relay has a diagram on it but no instructions. I'm not sure on how to wire the relay.

Please forgive the blurry photo but it's the best I could do close up with the camera phone.

The wires on the connector correspond to the diagram as follows (left to right):

red, green, black, white, yellow.

Do I just wire the "hot" wire for the fan to the "open" pole and ignore the rest or is there a different configuration that I need to use? Also, do I wire the inline fuse before or after the relay.

Hoping to wrap this up by the end of the weekend to take it back to the a/c shop on Monday to finish the job. Heading to Tahoe/Reno next weekend.

Thanks for any help.

Okay, I think I got it figured out if anybody can confirm it for me. Red wire goes to battery junction block via and inline fuse. Yellow or white goes to "hot" lead on the fan. Green goes to the compressor power and black goes to ground.

If somebody could check my work it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
