In the quest to wake up the 307 with pocket lint budget I picked up a quadrajet with matching intake

Quadrajet number 7036202 Intake number 3875954
As far as I saw Quadrajet decodes to California AIR 1966 for a chevy application automatic.
Intake is the matching 1966 intake.

Does this change my plans at all? Any special rebuild instructions something about needle and seat and pre67 stuff being different? Is there any demand for these numbers making it a better choice to trade off to someone since Im not playing the matching numbers game?

Thanks and I appreciate anything anyone can tell me.

Couple pictures dont know if they help.

Should do very well, imho!

Just take the time to set the back top butterfly's so the drop in where you want them and go.

Heck, I ran my OEM 350SS's Q-Jet on my old junk301 fine!

Allen,

The early QJ's do have a weird needle and seat arrangement, although I forget what the set up was specifically called. It's quite possible that the QJ you have has been rebuilt once and would probably have had the original needle/seat changed for the more conventional set up found in the rebuild kits.

I'm sure there is demand for the early carbs, I just don't know how much of a demand. I DO know they are not easy to find. Looking at your photos it sure looks like the carb is correct; even has the correct secondary dash pot, but the throttle arm looks a little new-ish, which might indicate that the throttle plate was swapped out.

IMO, if you plan to use any used carb, you need to have someone go through it.

The weird needle and seat deal is called a "condum" needle and seat. It flow's better than the later revised stock needle and seat from what I want to say, Doug Roe said.

If I remember right a little rubber "condum"-like dealie-bopper holds the needle in position.

My '67 Camaro's Q-Jet was that way..
