: Woodward Ave Dream Cruise...Who's going this year???
chevysrit Jul 24th, 08, 3:07 AM I'm from NJ and attended the cruise last year. EXCELLENT!! Any Chevelle guys going and where will you be? Absolutely the BEST cruise I ever attended!!! Lets hear from some guys that are going!!!! Strength in numbers!!!! Right???? Think the gas prices will effect attendance??
Chevysrit
ftgallant Jul 24th, 08, 9:39 AM Gas prices wont affect attendence, you wouldnt be able to tell due to the sheer numbers anyway. I went last year without my car friday and sat. and had an absolute blast! My plan is to drive my chevelle there this year. Still finishing it up. My nephew lives in Pontiac so I have a base of ops.
ssal396 Jul 24th, 08, 9:53 AM Well, I decided to go the the ACES show here in Cleveland instead, hopefully the dates wont conflict next year..

ftgallant Jul 24th, 08, 4:26 PM I'm all over it, breathing chevy orange!
rbeckman Jul 24th, 08, 10:35 PM Well from a guy that has been to about 10 Woodward cruise's it become so big that it is not fun for me anymore, it takes hours to move a mile because of all the minivans and commerical vehicles crusing too. Last year I went up to Flint as they have thier cruise call back to bricks http://backtothebricks.org/ and had a blast. A lot of people went to Woodward then headed to Flint (about 30 miles) for the afternoon and evening. It's a great weekend in Michigan for crusing no matter where you go.
Have a great time.
Would it not be a great idea to have the ACES show up in the Detroit area the same weekend. What blast that would be.
Robinls5 Jul 24th, 08, 10:49 PM I will be at the woodward cruise, Wifes brother lives in Taylor. We are staying in Belleville, MI. Nephews place. Leaving Jeannette (near Pittsburgh,Pa.) Thurs morn. going to stop and say hi to the Ohio Chevelle guys. Mark said they will be setting up on Thursday.
I will be driving a Red-70- SS 454 Sta. Wgn. My buddy in Mich has a business on Woodward, We park in his lot and the ladys are happy due to the sanitary issues, They use the inhouse not the outhouse.
You folks going to the Ohio show-- Ask Mark (RED RAGTOP)about the MOON over Grand Island, He will give you the details-LOL!!!!
Bob
ironhead Jul 24th, 08, 11:01 PM like ric said ^.The mini vans and sport utes clog up the avenue during the cruise. These individuals seem to find it easier to view the event in their comfort rides than park them and walk to the event and actually view Detroit iron rolling. What sticks in my memory last year.Dad driving the surburban in the curb lane while mom vidiotapes the crowd and the kiddys waving out the back windows like they are in a Santa Claus parade.
BlueSS454 Jul 24th, 08, 11:34 PM I'd like to go to Woodward once, the only problem is me + traffic = insufferable road rage. I don't think I can handle taking hours to go a mile.
bones454 Jul 25th, 08, 12:15 AM the best time for dream cruise is every evening the week before, you can get around, see tons of great cars
LeoP Jul 25th, 08, 1:08 AM the best time for dream cruise is every evening the week before, you can get around, see tons of great cars
That is a fact.

 Sounds like a great idea - You should start putting together your team and picking a location quickly. You will need lots of $'s and some great volunteers

Just tell me if you want Bob's version or my version - I heard the story got better everytime Bob told it....:D

LOL, I can do a lot of things, put planning something of that size is beyond my capibilities. I would love to be part of the team to work on it thou (I think I could do a good job on fund raising). Plus, I really don't even know if we have any sort of formal club up this way. I guess I'll have to keep a eye on what you Ohio guys are doing and see I get a invite to your shin dig. Ohio is only a hour away at 70 MPH.
Good luck on your show
chevysrit Aug 4th, 08, 12:54 AM Any Michigan guys interested in an informal Chevelle gathering during Woodward Ave. week? Where do you guys gather?? This New Jersey guy wants to hang with some other Chevelles!!!

During the week the majority of the cars are around the 13 mile rd area. Big shopping center on south west corner is packed with cars starting from early afternoon through the evening. It extends out from there a few miles each direction but that is the center of the activity. I'll be over there once or twice during the week but not sure of the days yet. Trying to get a hold of my cousin because we meet up there when we can.
muncher Aug 11th, 08, 1:42 PM We should pick a spot for out of town Chevelle guys to meet. Maybe a few blocks from Woodward - that 13 mile parking lot is full every night this week. Maybe up by 15 mile, where it's less crowded. There probably some other grocery store parking lot that we could use.
http://www.woodwarddreamcruise.com/
muncher Aug 11th, 08, 6:36 PM Berkely High School might be a good place to have out-of-towners meet. Only about a mile from Woodward and plenty of parking lot.
Maybe say Wednesday or Thursday evening about 7:00 ?

l:) I HATE it when that happens! I mean, you have to feel like a MORON while driving through a cruise like that!
I went to a cruise when I was younger, don't even remember where it was, but the cops rerouted a HUGE main street. Only classic cars could park on it and at the very ends (about 2 miles) they had entrances for classic cars to drive up and down! It was cool! At the end they even let the cars do a little burnout in the last 100 feet or so of the street. A few trucks and ricers would peel out as they left the parking and the cops were pulling them overl:)
Robinls5 Aug 11th, 08, 6:59 PM I will leaving the Pgh. Pa. area around 10:00 AM Thurs. Morn. ( driving a Red 70 SS 454 Wagon)My buddy will be driving his(Blue) 70 BB Camaro. If the Vell guys want to meet up someplace ,,,,,,,Let me know C-724-396-5275. Also I am going to stop and say HI ! to the Ohio Chevelle guys setting up there show in Clevland,Oh.
Bob ACES--AACA:thumbsup:
EastYorkCamino Aug 12th, 08, 6:04 PM I'll be there with my El C. I mostly cruise Thursday and Friday nights. Saturday is walking day. Heading down from Toronto with a gaggle of Corvettes.
Another idea about a meet is to have it in a parking lot. I am going to a GTO meet in a hotel down the street form mine on Sunday.
bones454 Aug 12th, 08, 7:21 PM we're going down tonight, we'll be sporting my 1971 monte

Ditto.
I actually went to Woodward last Friday evening (August 8). For the strip between Royal Oak and Birmingham, all the businesses along Woodward were lined with cars, people in lawn chairs, etc. An absolute blast.
Robinls5 Aug 14th, 08, 1:33 AM A Mich. Buddy has a business on Woodward Ave. in Bloomfield. If you see the RED 70 SS wagon parked on the street, Stop and say HI, And Ring me up if a Chevelle Gathering happens. Cell 724-396-5275
Bob ACES--AACA:thumbsup:
Finally Aug 14th, 08, 9:27 AM We were there Tuesday afternoon and evening. It could've been a Chevelle gathering. There's always lot's of Chevelles around but I couldn't believe the number of just 70 Chevelles plus all the other years, 13 & Woodward. If there is a gathering happening somewhere, today, Friday, Saturday let's hear about it.
T-Man Aug 14th, 08, 2:54 PM We were down there Tuesday night in our 70 Monte Carlo. We saw at least two clones of our car. Dark green, black vinyl top, and Torque Thrust 2's on them.
muncher Aug 14th, 08, 5:05 PM Hey Tom,
Do you have a place that you hang on Woodward?
Kelly's group will be singing at the Arby's south of 13 Mile Saturday at noon.:disco:
See ya, Brian
T-Man Aug 14th, 08, 10:58 PM Brian,
We do have a place, unfortunately nowhere near 13 Mile. Thye can sing at our show on the 24th. :D
figbash Aug 15th, 08, 12:47 AM I went tonight and it was a total zoo. It took an hour and forty five minutes to get from 9 mile to 14 mile. There were tons of non cruising cars, tons of people and cops everywhere. I got pulled over twice but was lucky to get off both times.
If you go, take one of the mile roads in and park on a side street. Twelve or Thirteen mile road would be a good bet. The Northwood Center at 13 mile is unfortunately closed, but the Shell station to the south is a good gathering place. Every year you need to go earlier in the week to actually cruise. I'll be there on Monday next year.
On the plus side, there were a lot of outrageous cars. Everything you can think of or imagine will be there. If you've never been there, go. It will be an experience you'll never forget.
Tom
70 SS LS-5 Aug 15th, 08, 1:17 AM I live right near 13-1/2 and Woodward so I usually hang out at the Shell station which is actually north of 13 mile and closer to 13-1/2, on the east side of the street. I just got back from Woodward and it was a blast as usual. Lots of nice Chevelles at the Shell.
If anybody is going to try to get a spot there, you better get there early tomorrow, because it's been filling up really early. Or come up Coolidge to Samoset, turn west onto Samoset and park on one of the side streets and walk in.
I'll be there tomorrow. If anybody plans on going there let me know and I'll look for your car.
Mike
clean7t Aug 15th, 08, 1:34 AM I will be out there the rest of the week i just got home from being out there.
Bob (Robinls5) where will you be with your wagon I want to see that thing. I will have both my Chevelle and Wagon out there on Saturday. Just a different times since I am 15 minutes from there. Friday will be out there all day with just the Wagon though.
Tom
bones454 Aug 15th, 08, 9:03 AM I came down from Pontiac. I got tired of sitting still, never even made it to Maple (15mile rd), turned around and found a empty lot just south of Square Lake rd and hung-out their with my son for a while. On a positive note...in the grid-lock the monte was steady at 175 degrees, not bad for a 12:1, 468 :D
Finally Aug 16th, 08, 10:03 AM We went over yesterday afternoon. Found a place to park the Chevelle just south of 13 mile, across the street from Snooker's. Just sat on the lawn and watched cars until around 7:30, lot's of nice cars. Then we did the 2 hour trip from there to 16 mile and back. Car never overheated but it's just not much fun with a stick. I'm still smelling exhaust fumes.
Not even going to bother today, have about a snowball's chance of getting a place to park. All the lot's have been pre-sold to groups. Oh well, yesterday and Tuesday were worth the drive.

Hank,
If you're looking to park your car near/on Woodward, then you're right, it's tough to find a spot. A good place that usually has a spot open is the Walgreens at 13/Coolidge/Woodward ;).
If you're just looking for a spot to walk in from then just go into the sub east of Woodward between 13 and 13-1/2 mile. there are always spots available there and especially in the sub east of Coolidge.

rbeckman Aug 16th, 08, 11:10 PM Hi all,
Just got back from back to the bricks in Downtown Flint and they had over 4000 cars on Saginaw and Beach street and all the side streets. Had a great time and Flint is bending over backwards to treat all of car guys with all due respect.
The rolling Cruise on Thursday night was a blast as well and all the resturants and Bars between Grand Blanc and Flint were in on the action and lots of freebies and treated us all well. I drove back today and it looked like a drag strip at every traffic signal
Redmanf1 Aug 17th, 08, 3:25 AM We were there sat and it was crazy fun. Lots of cars and seen a lot of chevelle’s. Anyway all who go have fun.

rbeckman Aug 17th, 08, 10:25 PM Nice burnout, glad to see he had a lot of room to let it all hang out. I bet the guys behind him are still tasting rubber....lol
ftgallant Aug 18th, 08, 8:14 AM How the heck did he get away with that? He must have been up north towards Pontiac, Last year the cops were clamped pretty tite. Excellent burnout though! :hurray:

Missed it this year. Wife scheduled a camping trip in Petosky. Here is the down side to the cruise, how did anyone pull this off unnoticed?
I was in Macomb County, MI last weekend. I wondered why there were so many nice musclecars driving around (I was around Mile 24 / Mile 27).
I was not there for a cruise, I was there for a funeral :(
Robinls5 Aug 19th, 08, 2:23 AM WOW... This was my first " Woodward " WOW again. We were in the Red 70 SS 454 Wagon. We were near Sq. Lake Road 43045 with Mich. Guys "Ron Henry and Gene." A guy from Conn. Orange GTO (racecar).
He did a John Force type burnout going towards Pontiac, Well------- $ 400.00 fine and Three points, This was about noon.
Again WOW and kant wait till next year
Bob
BLT4FN Aug 19th, 08, 8:21 AM I was about a mile north of you. went up and down around that area a couple of times, sorry I missed you.
chevysrit Aug 22nd, 08, 1:42 AM I had a sudden change in plans and COULD NOT attend this year! Really bummed out but I guess there is 2009 hopefully.Looking alot at Youtube!!! I went in 2007 and had a blast!Really want to make it an annual event since there is nothing like it around here in NJ!! Any Southern NJ guys that want to plan a trip there in 2009, lets put a plan together. I heard a guy had a 66 Vette stole this year. First car to ever get ripped off. What a shame!
So how many more Chevelle guys got to Woodward??? Lets hear your stories!!!
