Why isn't there a sticky on here for basic automotive wiring to serve as a "go to" guide for us electrically challenged types. It's something I really struggle with, and consistently attempt to grasp. I think if there was a good "Basic Chevelle Wiring" to serve as a foundation for learning there would be a lot less posts regarding menial wiring tasks.

I just wanted to bitch a little. I am gonna go back and search again, but if I come up empty handed I will be forced to leave the friendly confines of TC and troll the lifeless trenches of net.
Later Chris

There are probably many many pages of basic wiring out there on the WWW if you plug it into google.com.

Electrical is too complicated for most of the specific questions asked here about our old cars and would probably need to be page after page after page long.

Need help with a specific problem about your Chevelle?
Just ask, several people here love answering

Thanks for the links, I figured that was going to be the case. I just had a frustrating morning because I am getting my car close to firing but am waiting on the new replacement engine harness (mine is pretty mangled from years of abuse), and don't know when I am going to get it. Well I am pretty impatient and starting contemplating firing the motor with just the bare necessary wires i.e.- starter, alternator, battery, dist.
The new Crane XRi module in the distributor is one other item that factors into my confusion. I don't really know if it's possible to temporarily wire that in because my resistance wire is damaged and I think one of the wires has to be directly spliced into it.
I want to hang my front end but not until the motor fires. What to do? What to do?

First of all, the alternator is not needed to test fire an engine other than keeping the belt on the water pump so no need to wire it up.

On any specific after market ignition system part, the manufacture's instructions needs to be followed and can usually be found on their web sites.

IF the old resistance wire is bad AND the manufacture says one is needed, you can always substitute the wire with an after market ballasts resister from your local auto parts store.
