I have a 69 chevelle racecar and I want to put a push putton start on the dash. I know that a 68 chevelle has the key in the dash so if I put a 68 steering column in my 69 would everything be the same. The biggest problem would be if the wiring is the same.

The wiring order between the 1968 and 1969 columns are the same. The plastic connectors are quite different. There are jumper adapters available the bridge between the two. Also, I would imagine that you could take the individual wires out of one and install them one by one in the newer plastic connector.

One thing that you should be aware of. The first gen 1967-68 energy absorbing steering column is very wimpy in bending. You should note that the first gen columns have very large mounting brackets with three and four mounting points (with the aluminum breakaway capsules) where it attaches under the dash. All of this was to reduce the steering column/steering wheel from bouncing in your hands on rough roads. The 2nd gen 1969+ columns only needed a small mounting bracket with two mounting capsules because they were much stiffer.
