What are you guys using for valve springs with this cam? The Lunati website says to run a single spring with damper p/n 73815. Is that what everyone is using? And if it is I have to ask how do you break the cam in? It's not like you can break it in on only the outer spring with a single spring. I'm a little hesistant to run the single spring idea I guess especially for the break-in. What's the consensus here?

Thanks, Lance

The GM dual spring which is for the 454 and 502 HO engines will work fine. It's good to .560 lift and is available for $40 some dollars a set from Competition Products. I use it with my UD 272/272 solid cam which has more duration and as much lift as the 280/288 cam and it works fine up to 6000 where my rev limiter is set. The big advantage to a dual spring is that it allows you to remove the inner spring for cam break in, which increases your chances for new cam survival.

Von,
Do you have a part number for that from Competition Products? Just so I get the same one your talking about...

Thanks, Lance

Lance, The CP part # is 454-502HO (yes that's the PN). $39.95. 1.48 dia, 110 lb at 1.88 and 345 lb at 1.32. Coilbind at 1.27. They also have a package with these springs, GM L-88 steel retainers and 3/8 dia valve locks for $62.95. PN VSA 7. That's what I got. A screaming deal. CP says the springs are less than half the GM price. Competition Products (800) 233-0199. Note; this info was per last year's catalog.
