70Chevelle 350 Nov 16th, 99, 7:12 PM OK, got stuck today when my upper radiator hose blew. Got it fixed and decided to replace the lower also. Apparently this is the original one, all rusted and took a bit to get her off. Noticed that there was a helical wire (spring?) inside of the lower hose. What is this and should I put it in the new one? I would keep the spring. Manny Gomez Nov 17th, 99, 8:42 AM Hey 70 Agree; keep the spring. The rad cap has a vacumn relief feature that allows air back in as the system cools. Many caps will lose this function as they age. When that happens the hoses collapse. When you replace the hoses suggest you replace the cap and belt(s) with them.
