Anyone ever use a Powertrax in their rearend instead of a posi? I have SS 396 TH400 setup with an open rearend and am tired of leaving one leg lines, but I am very happy with the 3.73s in the rear. Supposedly with the Powertrax, it will fit directly into the open carrier without any gear setup (something I really don't want to deal with).

Also, please let em know if you are happy with it.
Thanks
Ron

Just installed one today in a 10 bolt, went in easy and took well under an hour to install. I have not tested it out yet, still have to do other work on the car.
Now to hijack if anyone knows :) for those who have installed one, how much play is there supposed to be when turning one axle and holding the other? Even with a good condition cross shaft I can move one axle a few degrees before the dowel pins turn the other side, just concerned that the dowel pins would shear with any play in them.

I've had one for 5 yrs. Works flawless. Ratcheted for the first few turns , now you don't know it's there untill you burnout , long and even.

I never checked how much rotation mine had, but make sure you check the crossshaft. its suppose to be a hardened one. jim

Ran one in my old Monte. Took about 30 min. to install and worked like a charm.

As far as "play". A few degree's is no big deal.

where does it say that in the install instructions?
I have installed several of these over the years and don't ever recall reading that.
The original Powertrax came with its own cross shaft..the "later" design requires you to re-use the original one.

When I got mine, there was a seperate 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper it had part numbers for all the different crossshafts available. and instructions on telling you how to check if its a hardened shaft or non hardened shaft. Also says if its a non hardened shaft your warranty is void. It didnt say anything in the installation book. jim

Yes, basically it said to lightly run a corner of a file on the end, if it cuts into the pin, then its not hardened. Jim
