I'm confused buy the big value difference between a column shift auto with a bench, and a bucket seat console combination. I've read a few post about this, but I don't understand why it's a big deal. Especially when it comes down to having two documented LS6 cars one with each combination. To me, the key is a documented LS6. This is just an observation, but I think it's crazy how not having options such as a gauge package, buckets, etc have such an adverse effect on the value. I'd be thrilled to have an LS6 with an auto, stick, bench or buckets. :)

What it all boils down to, is there are things that buyers like to have on their car. Buckets and console, 4 speed, and cowl induction are the most desireable things on a 70-72 Chevelle. Color is important as well.
If you put two numbers matching documented LS6 Chevelles side by side for sale, one is a Red/black buckets & console, 4 speed, cowl induction car, and the other is Dark Forest Green/green bench seat no stripes automatic, there will be an easy $10-15000 dollar difference between the sale prices of the two cars.
Always remember one of my favorite phrases....rare does not equal desireable. Popularity is what drives the market. SS cars are associated with buckets and a 4 speed.

I'll second that, the best deals I've ever gotten are on the less popular color cars. God knows they made a ton of them but when it's time to sell, it just doesn't seem there is as much interest and that's when a good deal can be made. A decently restored car with the right colors and a 4 speed will always sell.

True, but the bucket/console, cowl induction and stripes were not part of the Super Sport package. These were additional add on's like an am/tape, wiper washer lever monitor and remote mirrors. That's kind of comical how SS cars are associated with something that any Chevelle could have with the exception of the D88 stripes.

Sorry, substitute the striped for a cowl induction

It's just the way it is Ryan, most buyers want the options.

To clarify what Mike says, most buyers want the POPULAR options, like buckets, console Cowl induction, positraction....But I think the biggest issue is with colors. Unless the car is a 1000 point car, which there are only a few of, a good color like red or black will always bring more money that an off color like Gobi Beige, for example. You'll always have two or three people that like that color on a car, but compared to a color like red or black, even Fathom Blue, the money will be in a good color.
A good color car with fewer options wil sell better than an off color car with popular options.
