lloydt2442 Jul 17th, 08, 10:50 PM anyone?
lloydt2442 Jul 17th, 08, 11:13 PM sorry guys just found out after doing a little research this is a 360 hp manual shift. would the casting number be the same as a 375 hp?
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Jul 17th, 08, 11:20 PM EF is a 360 hp. 962 is a Block more typical of a 4 bolt 375hp but there are also many 962 360 hp blocks out there.. More often then not I would say, 360hp blocks were 961 2 bolt
Value... just plain block... alreday has somebody else's VIN stamped on it, so it will never be CORRECT for anyone else.. 4 bolt 962 makes it more valuable then a 961 2 bolt.. I'd guess $700 range

would there ever be anyway to get this to the original car? is there any sort of registry? I haven't seen any on ebay especially with this early of a build date.

Here is one that is very close to what you are asking about.

lloydt2442 Jul 17th, 08, 11:41 PM wow! 2 days older! but $4,500? I was thinking $1500-$2000 for mine but then I realized it was a 360 hp motor. If it would help I can take some pictures of it tomorrow and post them. $700 seems like it would be a steal.
james a larson Jul 18th, 08, 12:33 AM I saw one sell a couple of weeks ago to a corvette guy for around $985 on ebay.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=014&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=330246778178&rd=1 Assembly date of Oct 14
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Jul 18th, 08, 8:20 AM My engine stamp is T1208EF
Yes, the thing to do is post the engine block and it's numbers in the BENCH RACING section as something you have.. don't list it as FOR SALE... that you can handle privately... BUT the Block should be with the car it belongs to if the car is still floating around... Also, check with Chuck Hanson and if you are an ACES Member, you can list it in Chevelle World as available to rightful owner.
It's not in the registry at this time., I checked.

You can ask anything you want for something but getting it is a different matter! The one on ebay is .100 over, sleeved, and full of seller BS. To me that one is worth about $.07 @ lb. Good luck with yours.
glennslanaker Jul 18th, 08, 12:02 PM no one is even bidding the $1900 opening bid, let alone $4500. that isn't exactly a cherry block though. i wouldn't put something like that in a car.
the only big $$$ market is someone making their chevelle into a factory 375HP car by restamping your block. the only year a 396 was in a corvette was '65 and your block is way late for that.
1966_L78 Jul 18th, 08, 1:57 PM recently, I have seen several recently, $2000-range, BUT those were "asking" prices and they included other pieces, such as crank, heads (usually incorrect, as the #858 Rectangular Port heads were used on '66 427Corvettes too, and usually worth more because of that).
I even saw one advertised recently, that was listed as a 961 or 962 block (I forget, but a 4-bolt, L78 block), but they listed it as a '67 with a 67 M.Y. casting date (Sept/Oct 67?) and I think #840 heads, #069 intake *early '66 date). I forget the bore but I think std, and listed as mag'd and tanked, good. Asking $1999... I emailed, but didn't get a reply...
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Jul 18th, 08, 3:54 PM That's why I said.. if just a bare block and 962 4 bolt... ;)
nitrok9 Jul 18th, 08, 3:55 PM I have a 1968 375 horse rebuilt to factory spec 30 over. Complete, whats this worth??
1968MotionL88 Jul 18th, 08, 11:34 PM A while back I had a B85 casting date 962 shortblock with 68 840 heads and sold the long block for $5500.00 to a guy that has a Documented Hauser Chevrolet 65 Chevelle Z16 SS 4spd car.
lloydt2442 Jul 19th, 08, 1:03 AM well I called a guy today who had a few 66 chevelles that he sold and asked him if either of the guys might be interested in it and he said well give me a few days cause he would like to have it in his collection. so I told him $1000 and he told me he would take it. so we will see. here are a few pictures of it.

supersport6667 Jul 21st, 08, 10:01 PM Block is worth $1000-$1500 with the late 65 date and "EF" code, the last couple months the selling prices has dropped on ebay on the blocks with no reserve (were selling for 1500-2000). If the block had "EG" code or was cast from Feb-june 65 the block could easily double in value.
