Hello, I am having problems with my tach/gauge cluster on my 69 chevelle and i am considering a repro replacement unit. Has anyone used one of these? I thought of having mine rebuilt but they are up there in price compared to the replacements. Thanks

I've used the repro '70 tach and had no trouble.

My repop has just started to give me trouble. The oil pressure gauge moves when I rev the engine, and the temperature gauge works sometimes. I'm considering sending it for repair this winter.

Is there a noticable difference between the finish of the tach gauge cluster and the speedometer?

Not on mine. Only difference between factory tach and repop is the little pin that stops the tach needle.

The 70 repro tachs I have seen have two rivets to hold the face on. the origianl tach has 3 screws. Other than that they seem to work well and are very good replicas.

What kind of problems are you having? Are these factory original gauges? A lot of problems are easily corrected.

....has a photo of the repro 69 unit alongside originals. Some good comments about costs, etc. in there, too.

I've had my repro 69 unit for about 4 years now with no problems.

yes they are factory.Oil pressure just stops working then starts working again, temp gauge is off reads very low. I probably screwed up the temp gauge overspraying the element so i could probably fix it by cleaning it up.

For the oil gauge, check the connections at the sender and at the back of the gauge. The sender is variable resistance to ground to make the gauge work. Most likely the sender wire is going open. You can test the gauge by disconnecting the sender wire and grounding it.

The temp gauge works the same way, variable resistance to ground to make the gauge work. You can test the gauge by disconnecting the sender wire and grounding it. (with key on) With it grounded, it should peg to "H", with it open it should peg to "C". If it does, gauge and wiring are good to that point.
