: Trying to decide on mufflers for my pro-street 66.

I'm currently running a 350, but whatever mufflers I buy will be carried over to the big block next year. Currently I'll be running the exhaust out in front of the rear tires, mainly just to make the rearend narrowing/tubbing job simpler this winter. Once the car is officially pro-street setup I'll probably run the pipes out the back, even with the rear bumper. What mufflers do you folks recommend. I'm looking for a mean sound without the constant drone that some mufflers produce. Everything has already been soundproofed.

45 looks and no advice yet! It's all good. I'll make my own educated decision.

I've always liked the Hooker "Aerochamber" mufflers myself.

I've run flowmasters on everything I own (even my 66) and it makes a huge improvement over stock. I just ran the basic Flowmaster 40s and dump them at the rear. Go with the new Super 44s or the Super 40s since you're looking at a Big Block. They cost around $300 installed here in TX.

Hooker aerochambers or dynomax ultraflows

I'm running Flowmasters on my '66 and I like them a lot. I'll probably run them out the back soon so I don't fill the garage with exhaust all the time. Here's what they sound like...

Very nice SoCal. Like it a lot. As I stated above, I'm kind of partial to the Aerochambers, but Flowmaster's sound good too. The Aerochamber's aren't quite as loud, and I've always thought they have a "deeper" tone to them. Maybe it's just me.

You want mean with no drone?

How about this.... 3" pipes all the way out. It mellows out nice on the highway.

I am actually going to put muffs on it because I want a more factory sound.

I used the Ultraflows in my grand National and I really liked the sound. Even with the turbo 6 it had a nice deep rumble to it.

I had the stainless steel one's for 6 years and they looked like brand new when I sold the car.

Ive always run Flowmasters but got tired of replacing them from rusting out all the time. Decided to try Stainless 3" Magnaflows on the Pro Street!

How do you like the Magnaflow sound? I'm die hard on the Flowmasters so they would have to be close for me to be interested.

I too had Flowmasters (2 1/2")....a good product, but I love the sound of my Magnaflows (3") and will never go back to the Flowmasters. I now have the sound I've always wanted....a deep throaty sound thats not too overbearing.

U need to be careful about the diameter of the muffler itself..i have a 70 ss and it sits low (approximately 6-8 inches) since backhalfed. It could have problems with dragging (speed bumps, parking lot entrances with slight ramps, etc.). I like the flow master 40s but im not to the stage of running the exhaust for about another year..plus i wanna run an "x" pipe which may be a pain to hide up under there..just a suggestion. Im still a novice with the pro street modifications.
