I have a 1978 3/4 ton Chevy pickup. I'm putting a 1978 454 in and need your favorite cam choice for towing and daily driving. The motor is all stock, with 781 heads, iron intake, and 750 VS holley carb. It has headers and dual exhaust. Thanks....

My personal favorite, and the one that has had the most customer acclaim, is the Lunati 302A4LUN. It is 272/272 at .0045", 217/217 at .050, .515"/.515" valve lift, and 112 LSA. I have always put them in about 106° ATDC ICL.
Duallies using this cam to pull a 28 ft race car trailer report 8.5 to 9.5 mpg, vs 4 to 6 mpg with stock cams. Bone-stock 454s with cast iron intake and exhaust and Quadrajet pulled 370 BHP at 5000 at Mercury Marine, with 21" of vacuum.
I also put one in a 460 Crown Vic for the Southaven Police dept. It went from 8.5 to 11 mpg on city patrol, and would 'float' the front end at high speeds..... This one had stock intake/exhaust, etc.
You will like the 302A4LUN...

Thanks for the reply, Harold. The 350 in my truck is on the back side of the life span. Time for ALL of my vehicles to be big block powered! :D
