: What's mine worth?
LagunaSpecialEdition73 Jul 16th, 08, 4:33 PM Hello all, I am new to the forum. Found it searching information about my car. I've owned this 1973 Chevelle Laguna Limited Edition for eight years now, and haven't done any work to it, except to keep it running and passing inspections.
I live in apartments, so the car has been doing a lot of sitting in friend's garages, passing from garage to garage as i find kind souls willing to temporarily store it for me, but I realize I'm not doing this car justice, which is why I'm here now.
What's it worth? Is it worth selling? For how much? Is it worth restoring? I don't have the income to invest in an expensive venture.. but most importantly, I don't have the knowledge to know where even to begin!
Please help,
-Rick (from Dallas, TX)
dreis454 Jul 16th, 08, 4:40 PM Due to your self admitted limited knowledge & storage/work space I think selling it best for you ...........& the car.
As far as price?????????some of the others here will know better than I but pictures(the more the better) will definately be needed, otherwise you'll get answers like 'its worth anywhere from
$1,000 to $30,000.
LagunaSpecialEdition73 Jul 16th, 08, 5:20 PM Thanks for the reply dreis454, I suppose pictures of my car would help. :) Here are just a few. I hope they help. Is there anything else that could help me to estimate the worth of the car, and sell it fairly to someone who could care for it?

Please have a look at the pictures, I took pictures of all visible damage I could spot with my untrained eyes..
The mechanics of the car as far as I can tell are all original.. someone before me painted it that green color, it looks like it was originally gold.
The speakers and cd player worked whenever i used it, that's the only other thing in the car that doesn't appear to be original.
It is a 2-barrel carborator, 3-speed automatic transmission. Over the passed year the reverse hasn't been working, and it sounds like the gear shifting might be sticking, so i'm going to take off the transmission pan, change the filter and gasket, and change the transmission fluid, as correctly as I can based on the instruction manual. Hopefully that resolves the problem. Other than this year though, i've had no problems driving the car over the last 8 years. (it does ride very low though, perhaps the chasis springs need replacing? I think the muffler sits 3-4 inches from the road. :(
Jimmy P Jul 16th, 08, 5:24 PM Welcome Rick. As you know, it's a tough economy out there right now. A basic restoration for that car if it's in the best of shape would still cost you a minimum of $20,000 for suspension, paint, and trim. If you don't have a place to store it in, I'm guessing you don't have a place to work on it either which equates to $70/hr for someone else to work on it.
If you REALLY want to know what it's worth, post at least 5-6 pictures and provide a full description with an honest assesment of rust and mechanical issues. You'll get the best answer here for it's retail value and possibly an offer, but you have to provide pictures and details. Pictures are easy to post when using photobucket.com or another free hosting site for pictures.
glennslanaker Jul 16th, 08, 7:34 PM rick,
looks like a fairly clean car. your probably in the range of $2000. if it was a factory 454 or a super low miles cream puff they can go way higher. there's a following for these cars, but it's fairly limited. plus this is kind of a bad time to sell. good luck.
I don't think that car is going to get more than $1k if that. Too much rust in it. The money needing spent to fix it will be way more than it is worth. It is not an S-3 or SS so the value will not be there IMO. With the market being soft these type of cars not do well. You might try to track down one of the BBs that cater to those years. I have always liked the Lagunas but just don't think that one is gonna have much value. Best of luck on choosing what you want to do.
Mr69 Jul 17th, 08, 5:40 PM Never seen a "Limited Edition". I suspect somebody found that emblem and stuck it on the car. A good sales ploy.....probably fetched a few more dollars at sale.
frog_dude Aug 20th, 08, 7:50 PM Right now if it runs and drives good, I think you might be able to get about $1,200. Someone will buy it that will just drive it to the ground and junk it. I see antifreeze on the engine. I can really see some engine work right away. Its hard to sell these cars with the market and gas prices.
